Interesting to see them picking up several older shows. It's not a bad idea since the licenses are bound to be relatively inexpensive, and not something where they bid against Crunchyroll. The main downside is older stuff has trouble getting traction compared to newer stuff, but I suspect the crowd that subscribes to Hidive is more receptive to retro titles in general.

Paul's Miraculous Adventures pick up is absolutely wild. I had a chance to see an episode or two a bit ago and it's a fun show and has some experimental usage of digital editing and animation (through manipulation of drawings and such). Never in a million years would I think this would be picked up.

To be fair, the only truly "new" addition is Paul's Miraculous Adventure, as all of the other Tatsunoko shows were a part of Sentai's prior deal a decade ago. The only thing is that, outside of Urashiman, Gatchaman, Casshan, & the Time Bokan OVA, the other titles were only available via Hidive for no more than a year or two, seemingly tossed out at the last moment so that Sentai could fully honor their end of the deal. Even Ippatsuman was a part of that deal, but just never got streamed at the time. Here's hoping that, this time around, Urashiman, Gold Lightan, Mecha-Doc, Judo Boy, & now Ippatsuman & Paul's Miraculous Adventure actually get physical releases, too. I'm also hoping that the Tatsunoko train continues on & we get more shows in future months. I especially would love to see Hurriance Polymar (the OG 70s series), Space Knight Tekkaman (both the OG & Blade), Legend of Heavenly Sphere Shurato, Zillion (if it's no longer with FUNimation/Crunchyroll), Generator Gawl, & The SoulTaker become available to watch on Hidive. |

Beside people that are receptive to retro, if you have a Gen Z demographic (assuming they have Hidive subscription) that are driving retro nostalgia wave or just burned out from watching seasonal or any newer anime and want to see something different, those older titles could find newer audiences amongst retro-loving Gen Z demographic (assuming their love of retro technologies, retro 90's and 80's fashion, and even watching shows from the 90's can translate into watching older anime titles). I mean I was born in 1987, and I do find older anime (80's anime) more appealing probably because of cel animation, and 80's characters design just looks unique and appealing to me as a both animation lover, and as a history nerd. So yeah, these older titles could find new life with younger audiences if you know or familiar with the trend of Gen Z being involved in nostalgia wave which can crossover to older anime titles. |

I have an issue with Hidive. When I click on titles they've recently added on the web browser, it comes up with 404 error. When i click on them on the Apple TV app, the button clicks, but it won't take me to the title.

Glad to see Hidive filling that space between the golden oldies anime from Diskotek and the modern releases from Crunchyroll.

Is Sentai Filmworks' deal with Tatsunoko the reason why Nelvana's Phoenix Ninja reboot was canceled?

Sorry to see Wasteful Days of High School Girls leave the service. I really love that show, although I realize that leaves me in an extreme minority. Even so, I'd hate to see it disappear into the ether where no one could discover it. Oh, well, at least I own it on Blu Ray.
