Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You (TV) Source: Manga (ongoing @ 8 volumes by Jinushi) Demographic: Seinen Animation Studio: Asahi Production Genres: comedy, romance, slice of life Themes: adult cast, workplace Plot Summary: Sasaki was an overworked salaryman who goes through an average stressful work day like any other salaryman. Upon finishing a long day, the only thing Sasaki enjoys is visiting his favorite convenience store to have a friendly chat with the always cheerful clerk Yamada. This was a regular routine for Sasaki, but one day he ended up working slightly longer at his job and by the time he visited the convenience store, Yamada had already clocked out. Sasaki was about to leave the store until he noticed a young woman with piercings smoking behind the store. So I tried the first few mini-episodes and I like the show well enough. I'm not really into May December type romances, but this show has an easygoing kind of charm. I stopped after mini-episode three though, because if I understand what's going on here, the first six episodes were basically broken into twelve mini chunks of varying sizes and released early. Next, the anime is going to re-release those episodes in their original form, and rather than watch the first half the season and then wait for six weeks for it to play out again so that I can catch up to the story, I'd rather just watch it in the usual fashion.
That said, I do anticipate enjoying this. |

I wouldn't call this May December. He is not that old and she is not that young. In any case, in terms of anime romance, this is going to be as slow burn as they come. I would say to enjoy the ride, but this is more like a slow ramble on foot. |

I'll certainly wait for the actual rather than stunt release.
Not sure if I'll pick it up... I've read the manga, which is ok enough as a very short, bite sized romance that never really goes anywhere. Is it a story I want to consume twice? Does it stand up to being full anime episode length? I think it'll be a solid watch for people coming to it fresh but for myself I might leave it on the shelf. |

I will jump in since the theme of the upcoming season seems to be lots of fantasy and a bit of smoking. Gonna wait for the regular release though, finishing this season on time is tricky enough as is.
