I was just thinking after going to the official dothack website are oav's like dothack a good idea?
Here's the pros and cons:
Pros:
1. you can make the videogames tie in really well
2. the series can go on and on forever [ woohoo ]
3. you can change it to the target audience every few years
Cons:
1. more people will try to copy this idea and it will become bland and boring
2. it may become completely marketing focused and lose it's edge [ like pokemon and yugioh ]

I don't really agree with your cons.
1. If it's the same thing over and over again, sure, what wouldn't, but if they were to, say create an original Gundam game and release a DVD anime version with it, or a dating sim with an anime packed with it, then variety can keep things run smooth. For gameplayers this could be a new delivery system for anime.
2. If you're talking about .hack specificly then you're a little too late. With all of the TV spinoffs, manga spinoffs, the OAVs, video games, and along with the merchandice that has been pushed it's already way pass marketing focus. Doesn't appear to have lost it's edge yet.
