While reading Samurai Deeper Kyo this morning i noticed that in the front of it, it lists Tokyopop's manga and at the bottom it has Cine Manga which includes Spy Kids,Spongebob, and Jackie Chan Adventures so i was wondering what is Cine-Manga?

Oh, that cine-manga is based on tv shows and movies. Instead of re-drawing the cartoon, they take shots from the cartoon and put word bubbles on it. It's a good idea because it's extrememly colorful, simple and cheap, and the titles often appeal to an audience that already has a fan base. However, because all the comics are based on episodes, there's nothing original about it.
They also did that with Spirited Away. It was published in 5 books. |

No, they're calling it Cine-Manga. Tokyopop isn't hiding what it is at all.

Actually, Viz published the "Spirited Away" Cine-manga (although it doesn't have the title of "Cine-Manga"). But some of these titles are Japanese in origin; I've seen at my local comic book store copies of "Princess Mononoke" Cine-manga in Japanese, and I believe "Akira" was also given this treatment in Japan.
Tokyopop, however, is doing the same thing with several American shows, like "Monsters, Inc", "Sky Kids", and "Kim Possible". |
