does anyoone what this episode is on tonight? it's quite bizarre. i've never seen this one before, and this one was subtitled unlike the other ones. it involves Washu trying to take over the world, and Sasami turning into Pretty Sammy

Before anyone asks, we can't get it in Canada...
That's the Mihoshi Special, which, as far as I know, was never aired on Cartoon Network (which we also can't get in Canada), not "officially" being part of any of the Tenchi series. It's just a standalone OVA released in March 1994, in-between the first two OVA series, which takes place mostly in Mihoshi's faulty memories, influenced by watching too much television. I love the Mickey Mouse gloves. You can get it on DVD along with the three Pretty Sammy OVAs. |

I almost didn't watch it on Friday, and I'm glad I did. I thought that Muyo! was going to be replaced by Universe. I wonder if they are planning on showing the Pretty Sammy OVAs next. I hope so.
Is that the one with evil Kiyone? Or, was that just in a manga? Or, am I just losing it? |

Umm... Kiyone in the flashbacks, whether real or imagined by Mihoshi, is "normal" Kiyone, pretty much the same as in the Tenchi Universe continuity (with a slightly sexier uniform), however, the ending sequence is the music video for the song "Magical Girl Pretty Sammy" originally from the Sound File LD (the only original piece of animation in that), and the generic sexy evil villain-lady is supposedly Kiyone, according to the liner notes, though she doesn't even look that much like Kiyone... closer to Alcyone from Rayearth (whose voice was, coincidentally, also provided by "Yuri Amano").

In the Mihoshi Special, Kiyone wears a white mini-skirt and pantyhose. In the Universe/TV1 continuity, Kiyone, while still the sexiest Tenchi character in my honest opinion, wears pants, albeit skin-tight ones.

Yes, Yes, Yes,.. when I saw it wasn't a Tenchi Universe I did a triple take, and then I heard the Japanese, then that wonderful sub-titling and I did my happy, happy dance.
I had e-mailed i-channel earlier last week about the restart of El H. the Alt. world on wed. dec 10th, I was told the former and that El Haz The Alt.World would be running again and that they wern't sure what will start after that is done. Maybe we could ask them to run the Capt. Tylor cycle again, or even Votoms anything in Japanese with english sub-title. |
