http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0000AINJW/sr=8-1/qid=1206029660/ref=olp_tab_new?ie=UTF8&coliid=&me=&qid=1206029660&sr=8-1&seller=&colid=&condition=new

As you can see, someone is selling a new copy of Rahxephon Vol. 5 for $700, and it seems to be out of stock in most places. The thinpak still seems to be regularly available though.

Anyways.. if you want to own the individual DVD releases of Rahxephon, you might want to get those now.. otherwise you'll end up like me with only 11 of the 12 volumes of Aura Battler Dunbine.

yeah, I think generally once the thinpack or boxed set comes out the demand for the singles pretty much disappears. Places don't really want to waste the space on a ton of old singles that hardly anyone wants to they tend to try and clear them out. It's great if you can get em for sale when they're doing it but afterwards it becomes pretty tough to find the entire set.

You mean $70?

Either I'm nuts or that offer has been taken down. That link doesn't show someone trying to sell vol 5 for $700

Man. I spent $80 on the thinpack. Later on I found out I could have gotten it for $60. Oh well. It's worth the money.

I don't like Thinpak coolections at all, I wish ADV stuck with the Perfect Colelctions like they did with Orphen, Steel Angel Kurumi and Sorceror Hunters. So I'm trying to get all these shows in single DVDs and now it's getting very dificult. Angelic Layer is falling, Rahxephon like said thread, Aura Battler also, Sorceror Hunters etc...

I kind of feel the same way as you, but my shelf is starting to get full. If I keep buying at this pace I think I'm going to have trouble keeping room for all the packaging. I think the stuff is cool and all, but I don't really like to be "tied down" too much either.

Be thankful that the thinpack actually got an R1 release. Where I live the individual volumes are available but the collection is yet to be brought out.

I actually prefer thinpacks over bricks, those oversized DVD cases. I hate when one of the stupid little things inside a brick brakes and pretty much you have to replace the whole brick, or ghetto rig it. Thinpacks can be replaced on the spot.

Also with my collection in alphabetical order, I love to fill up rows. With a brick if the series ends up at the end of the row, my system takes a hit. with thinpacks, just split up the series...

People post up stupid auctions or sales all the time. If we made a post about it everytime then we'd have endless posts about anime selling ffor way too much.

Well the earlier Thinpaks from ADV specifically, cut out a lot of extras and lower quality, I admit that most of the shows now don't have that but like Angelic Layer I still see like that and do not want to chance it, so I'm currently trying to find it in single DVDs for it. While the Geneon thinpaks for Ikki Tousen and Chobits aren't as bad as that but it still feels awkward. And now the Viridian sets for FUNi are just terrible from packaging alone.

Yeah, some of ADVs early thinpacks, they tried to fit all the episodes on less discs, which meant no extras, lower bitrates on video/audio, and all around crappy-ness. Which is why I'm glad they seem to have abandoned that habit, and are just releasing 'slimpacks' now, the complete original discs in 'slim' packaging. Much more space efficient and with all the original content. To avoid getting a crappy thinpack, just check to see how many discs the series was originally released on and if the thinpack is less discs, avoid it at all costs.

The RahXephon thinpack actually is the same as the singles release in terms of disc contents, although I believe there were booklets with the singles release that weren't included in the thinpack. And disc count isn't a foolproof method -- there are some series like Yumeria and Diamond Daydreams that were originally released on 3 discs, but are still stripped of extras in the 3-disc thinpacks. Granted, fewer discs in an ADV thinpack still = no extras, but same disc counts =/= same as singles release.

The RahXephon booklets feature both interviews and color concept design artwork for both characters and mecha on fairly nice paper stock. The nicest thing about it is the cover is made out of a translucent paper vellum which reminds me of my old drafting classes.

Yeah, the RahXephon booklets were nice. I dimly recall there being useful translation notes and such in them, as well as their being pretty. I wish there were more like that.

I've been looking for a copy of Kaleido Star volume 6- somebody had one of those (new) on Amazon for $700, but it's gone. I don't know if it got bought or taken down. I'd be stunned either way. I'd hate to have to buy a thinpack for a series that I've got five volumes of six, but the perfect daughter needs to know how it ends. I just can't imagine RahXephon or Kaleido Star commanding nearly $1000 for a dvd with thinpaks out.

I checked DVDpricesearch, and a few online retailers do have Kaleido Star 6 in stock. New Wings 6 is even more available.

I really doubt this, considering I bought all of the singles for around 35 dollars.
