Haven't heard a peep about the 3rd OVA in quite sometime. Did some looking around at AIC's english site then on to tenchi web.
Looks like they've only released 2 vol. so far. Is that just 2 eps or is it 2 eps per vol?
The real question is who is going to get the license. Pioneer stated they weren't getting it so who is a likely candidate.
Funimation has the GXP license, could they pickup the ova license too? We all know the ova needs the original voice actors, but will it be possible?
Speculate people speculate!
How many eps is the 3rd OVA going to be anyway? At this rate when do you think we'll see it in the US. 2005-6?

The 3rd Tenchi OVA will be just six episodes (one ep. per disc) and are being released every 2 months in Japan. When Pioneer stated that they weren't getting it they seemed to imply that Funimation had the inside track but Funimation hasn't said anything and I don't think they will until the OVA finishes in Japan next fall. Therefor I don't think we'll see OVA 3 in the states until 2005 at the earliest.
The best place to get any news and/or hear rumors is over at AIC's forum, they have a section dedicated to OVA 3.

I've seen the first episode of OVA 3 - and IMHO it was quite good. It clocked in at around 45 mintues so the western releases will more than likely be two episodes to DVD. As for the story - not much was said in the first episode, alot of flash backs to the frist two seasons (Original cel animation, which stands out like a sore thumb - but Nurse Washu makes an apparence )
I would recomend keeping an eye on it if you were a fan of the first two OVA's.

So is each episode really 45-50 minutes long? That's awesome! I wish there were more than only 6 episodes though.

Well, thus far each "season" of the OVA has only lasted six episodes, so it's pretty much par for the course.

Only episode 1 is 45 minutes long. The other 5 will be 30.

that's pretty interesting.
They show original cel work from the previous seasons? yeah I would think that would stick out alright.
Chalk me up on the list of tenchi fans.
I just hope they resolve the questions left from the first 13 episodes. I mean how is tenchi to compete if you he generates 3 lighthawk wings and this other z guy and generate more.

Part of the reason Geneon dropped its support of the Tenchi series is because of their newer top tier romantic comedies Chobits and Ai Yori Aoshi.
After Bandai scored a coup with Love Hina sales that basically made Tenchi old hat (something that has me torqued off to no end) there was a bit of a scramble at Geneon to find something that could compete. Even though Tenchi was a television proven series, it wasn't enough to keep it on the A-list at Geneon, and now they're reissuing the OAV discs as part of their discounted Signature series.
Resparking interest in Tenchi will require reintroducing it to the widespread public. FUNimation has the clout at Cartoon Network to do this, especially since Tenchi is a proven series, but since Cartoon Network allowed the airing rights to slip away to the International Channel who knows if it'll happen.
As I've said before. Mr. Akamatsu, I will no longer watch any of your series, buy any of your books, or brake if I see you crossing the street.

My biggest complaint with the animation is that Ryoko's ears tend to double their size and come to a point.

Well, in an ideal world, 4Kids would get the rights, but, barring that, I suppose I can live with FUNi getting the rights, because, hey, at least there's the prospect that the whole thing can get re-scored by Bruce Faulconer!
Oh, I'm such a "torie"!
Yes, I know 4Kids wouldn't remotely be interested in Tenchi Muyo, and FUNi would treat it exactly the same as Fruits Basket and not touch a thing, especially the music, I just like yanking certain peoples' chains.

So harsh Craest, so harsh.
I've noticed that the character designs do seem to be slightly different, but thats to be expected I guess.
I wouldn't be to bitter about funi getting the license either. They seem to be doing a fairly good job lately. I just hope they put in that extra stuff that was on the japanese ep 1 release.

I just thought of something. If a company other than Geneon gets the rights, will they be allowed to distribute it under the title Tenchi Muyo!? Or will I have to add Tenchi Infinity! or some such to my DVD collection?

It should still be called Tenchi Muyo.
Vampire Princess Miyu TV is liscensed by Tokyopop, while the Vampire Princess Miyu OVA's are liscensed by AnimEigo

But didn't TokyoPop shorten the name to just "The Vampire Princess?" I remember they called it such in one of the trailers for it.
