Has anyone noticed how many people like Boogiepop Phantom but don't understand what it's about. It's one of the few anime that don't follow a specific main character. For example, in Dragonball Goku is the main character.

I was able to follow Boogiepop Phantom, one of the only animes i don't get is dragonball/z/gt because although they focus on some main charachters the fights seem to take forever, and i'll see differnet episodes, and won't know what's going on except one of the guys with lots of hair is fighting some sort of alien.

ROFL!
Anyway, I understood Boogiepop Phantom, and I utterly adore it. Easily one of my all-time favourites.

Okay theres this town, and the magnetic field is all whacked up. Thats why there's rust, and the edges of the screen are black and boogie pop and the bad guy that I forgots name exists. Boogie pop takes all the special kids so the bad guy cant take them. then the magnetic field goes all normal and the rust and black edges on the screen are gone and the bad guy is then killed in the final episode so the special kids arent in danger. I think....
I watched it in marathon a while back so im suuuuper blurry.

I don't think Boogiepop Phantom anime series alone solves everything. The story of Boogiepop evolves around the novel series. The anime series was created to extend a bit of what the heck was going on in the first few novels. However, nevertheless, the anime series is still very entertaining.

I have no idea about Boogiepop... I just couldn't get into it, never figured it out, and kept falling asleep to boot. It just didn't move quick enough for me.... or hook me in any other way.
Which is odd, seeing how well I liked Haibane Renmei....

I totally dug Boogiepop because of how the episodes related tangentally to each other. There'd be a sequence that was a side-story in one ep and be the main story in another. Really cool, dynamic flow to the series.
That being said, I'll need to watch it a couple more times to get my head around it. Yeah, there was something about a Man-Eater, and Boogiepop was the Angel of Death or something...people with spiders on their hearts...teenagers getting murdered... Crazy stuff.

This novel series you speak of...is it attainable in English?

Dammit, I wish it was! Oh how I wish it was! I've seen a place that had one or two chapters translated by a fan. >.< Book companies need to translate these books!
In other news, a while back I saw some awesome anime traliers/commercials/newtype 2 pagers for a new Boogiepop Phantom series. ANN announced it in their news way back when of it being about a whole bunch of new kids. My question is this: WHERE THE HECK IS IT?!?!
*curses her fansub download of the LA movie for continuing to freeze*

I wrote a letter to Vertical back in September in hope of translating the Boogiepop novels into English. Vertical was the company who translated 'Ring' in English and I think they did a really good job.

The DVDs have a great commentary track which helps clarify things up. The DVDs helped me figure out the stuff about Echos, and the back story a bit more. It also explains the cameo characters like spooky electric. The main plot is not too complex, only somewhat disjointed because there are so many parallel plots in a small time frame.

LOL, in all fairness DB/z/gt is very different than Boogiepop. I bow before those (not I) who can truly appreciate both series.

I finished the live action movie the other night, and even though it was corny, and kinda slow in the beginning, and even though I didn't really like Boogiepop's costumes, I think anyone who enjoyed the anime will enjoy the movie.

The books would be awesome. There are like 13 of them at the moment. Written by Kouhei Kadono and published by Mediaworks in Japan (98-2003). The Japanese networking 'wall' pisses me off!!!!
Send them an email and tell them to sell me the damn rights already!!!!!
Anyway, I too absolutely loved Boogiepop. One of the Ultimate series to ever exist. Granted the first disc is very hard to digest (well, it isn't SUPPOSED to make sense until you watch it all), but it is a lot of fun and I wish that there were more disturbing titles like it. *sigh*
P.s. ain't my avatar cute!
