Same.

I thought it was done given VIZ Media published like volume 22 last year. So I guess VIZ Media put this series on hiatus.

Too bad the U.S. fans gotta wait almost a year for the next volume. I hope they're luckier on getting it completed than the Inubaka fans.

volume 23 of the manga is set release next year. Most people only know the series by it anime for it comedy, but the manga has a much deeper storyline as well as much more character development.

Nah, volume 22 came out in April. It's on an annual release schedule, so it'll be awhile before Viz reaches the last book. I, personally, can't wait for #23 after 22's gut-punch cliffhanger ending.

Hopefully Viz won't drop the title, but the guy in charge of the localization (the wonderful Mr. Carl Horn) has a pretty good relationship with the English-speaking fanbase and has professed his love for the manga a few times in the past, so I don't think we have anything to worry about. Wink

Excel Saga (the manga) is one of the best comics out there, Japanese or otherwise, IMO. The humor is not only legitimately funny, most of the time it's clever and witty rather than obvious and low-brow. It's a slow burn of the best kind (completely unlike the anime), with lovable characters who have experienced excellent development over the past 15 years. The art is also quite good once you get through the first five releases.

I assumed the manga ended ages ago! 15 years is pretty crazy considering it only got a single season anime.

Viz's release schedule is like water torture. I just did the math, and Fullmetal Alchemist will be wrapping up right around when Brotherhood finishes on Adult Swim. I'm not sure which will end first, but they'll both be done by the end of September.

Hopefully with the series wrapping up in Japan, Viz will consider speeding things up here. It's a pain when titles hit that point where they catch up to the Japanese release enough that they fall into irregular print schedule.
The manga is wonderful, much better than the anime. The jokes are a bit more out there (such as when Il Palazzo took a swing at Christmas). Iwata has been a cyborg (only his brain was saved) through a majority of the book as a major dif. Watanabe was pretty funny when he lost it after Il Palazzo collected Hyatt. Elgala has her moments, though she wasn't in the anime.

Funimation will finish with the disc release in August (assuming no more delays), then Adult Swim soon after, but Viz doesn't finish with the manga until December 20, as that's the release date for 27.

I'd seriously like to read on in this series, but volumes 7 and 8 are so [expletive] expensive! Vol. 7 new on Amazon.co.uk is £96 and vol. 8 is a whopping £158!!

I think Viz needs to consider both this and the Battle Angel series for compilation treatment if only so folks late to the game can read them both from the beginning without paying stupidly overpriced rates for certain volumes.

27 volumes, huh? I kind of figured it was at least coming close to some kind of resolution story arc. Here's hoping Viz has the heart to finish it here unlike Inubaka.
