This is going to mirror two of my posts on another forum, but it's something that needs ot be said (I also switched up some of the bad language with less-coarse substitutes to keep by forum rules).
I don't know if you've all been watching Gundam SEED on CN, but if you have, then you would have noticed the horrible savagery that was Andrew Bartfeld's gun. They changed it to look like a toy gun and it was incredibly obvious; it completely ruined the way Bartfeld's character was portrayed. This episode, they did it again (and by the looks of it, next episode and the whole series). They showed Cagali's gun in the holster, and then when she whipped it out, it had an Orange cover on the front, again making it look like a toy gun. They did the same thing (this time with red) to Athrun's gun. It pisses me off to no end. The kids watching SEED obviously know what a gun looks like and what it can do; for christ's sake, cops carry them around in plain daylight!
If they are going to do this to the handguns, why not make the knives into toy knifes? Why not make the bullets that EVERYTHING in the show shoots into rubber bullets? Hell, why not eliminate death entirely from this series? If you're going to sugar-coat something as simple as a freaking gun, sugar-coat the entire freaking series. Ruin SEED like you ruined Kenshin.
At this rate, Tolle's death and Nicol's death are going to be horribly botched.
CN needs to know what to censor and when to censor it, what to put on AS and what to put on Toonami. Toonami needs SEED, but the 12-16 year old audience it's targeting is far too old to need to be sheltered from a gun and an inference to sex. It's not like they were doing it on screen (a la Blue Gender), so I don't see the problem. Language can be censored, but something like "damn" or "hell" need not be. Death does not need to be censored; hell, you can see and hear about death just by opening the newspaper or turning on the news. In the case of SEED, botching either Nicol or Tolle's death would completely throw the impact of both deaths directly down the crapper. And if the reason they're censoring the guns is because it's 16-year olds weilding them, then... well, then they need to deal with it or bump it up to 11pm and call it Adult Swim. Most of the kids who watch SEED watch Inuyasha, anyways. And censoring guns also completely screws around with the way things work. Like when Athrun gets shot - I don't know many toy guns that can injure a person like that.
Another thing that bothers me is that when Murrue pulls out a gun in the beginning of the series, it's not a toy gun - it's uncut. And she shoots at somebody, too (a 16-year old kid, no less). They must have gotten a letter from an overly-protective parent or two about it and changed it. I say, screw them - your ratings aren't going to plummet because a few moms aren't letting their little kids watch SEED.
Screw CN for being too sensitive.

I really wish free speech would over the forces of ignorant soccer moms, but this is the huge Turner corporation we're talking about.

I don't live in Canada; I live in the USA, and everything I opine on is what's on America's airwaves.
If you're just talking to the people in Canada, then... I don't know what you're trying to say.

Toonami targets 6-11 and 9-14. Sorry, dude. It's for kids.

Cartoon Network was doing really well with SEED up until Waltfeld. Aside from blood and the one scene with Fllay, it was practically uncut. They even showed full-on guns until they got to Andy.
But for whatever reason, at that point in the series, they decided it was the right time to switch over and start painting up laser guns. This is after characters had already been aimed at, shot at, and shot by real guns for the first eighteen episodes, which is horrifically inconsistent.
It's still not as bad as Rurouni Cut-Up in terms of the sheer volume of edits, but the fact that the guns are going to be covered up by crappy canned sound effects and editing skills that make a two year old on MS PAINT look good by comparison is incredibly stupid and ultimately distracting to the viewer. Especially since they weren't doing it from the start.

wise man once said..."Never mess with the wooden spoon of Mommydom!" I take that as they can kick the strongest mans ass and change anything, but they prefer there darling kids not to be exposed to the violence and whatnot. now as for the Canadian broadcast of G SEED, you lucky bastards.

Unless you would like Cartoon Network to take the show off the air, stop complaining. It's unrealistic to expect uncut shows to air on a network like CN in a block that targets youngins'. I hate edits too, and from what I've read these sound like particuarly bad edits, but they are giving the show airtime, so be happy about that.

Please pardon me for not using spoiler tags for the 2 of you on this forum who didn't watch SEED when it was fansubbed.

That's no excuse. By the time you're 9 years old you already know what a gun is and what it can do. There's no reason to "keep it secret" from you. I mean, 6 year olds play with G.I. JOES all the time, and they use *gasp* REAL GUNS! And yet the mothers still let them play with them and green army men, yet hate it when real guns are being shown on TV? Give me a break.
Cartoon Network needs to stop getting bent over a tree by over-zealous Christian moms. 'Nuff said.

You misunderstood balla's post because of improper punctuation. It should read: "I feel bad for you guys. In Canada, we just got SEED, and other than the OP being edited, it is uncut and dialogue matches the DVD. The same uncut attitude is for our Inu Yasha and Witch Hunter Robin."

Oh. Sweet. Canada keeps getting better and better, despite the liberals winning it again.

Empyrical's complaints about the editing are legitimate. Why should he just "be happy" CN is showing Seed?

Especially when more than half the episodes they ordered were aired just fine without the edit in question, and the Saturday Toonami was meant to skew towards a slightly more mature demographic anyway.

The problem as I see it is a combination of our Puritan roots and our amazing ability to blame everything but ourselves. I really hate it when parents blame stuff like anime or video games for how their children turn out, while never admitting that they failed as parents.
I don't know about most parents, but mine actually talked to me about stuff I didn't understand. If they didn't like how I was developing, they did something about it.
Ah well, I guess most parents just don't have what it takes to raise kids, if they can't deal with a cartoon.
