Many months ago, I asked if Banner of the Stars I & II would be released as collector's editions, like that of Crest of the Stars.

I was given the impression "no" on ANN.

Thus, I bought all of the DVDs INDIVIDUALLY.

Now, I am quite upset (pissed as hell, really).

Banner of the Stars II is being released as a collector's set 10/12.

Just for the record, I would like everyone to know this.

And, is there anyone else out there who can relate to my "purchase-individual-dvds-and-then-a-month-after,-collection-set-(considerably cheaper)-appears" woes? Does anyone else out there have my crappy, pissant luck?

*is woeful*

To start the topic, you said it was many months ago, but then you refer to it like it was last month, I'm curious as to how long ago exactly this was.
If you asked it many months ago, maybe what the posters who told you "no", didn't mean that it was impossible for it to happen, but rather that there were no plans for it, I'm sure you realize how much the intertainment industry can change in moment.

This post is entirely IMO, I'm just trying to spread some light on the subject. Thanks for reading. Cool

Just to play the role of the devils advocate here; maybe the ann crew does not know everything. Things change all the time, so i might not be entirely their fault.

No, I think you have misunderstood, and this is my fault for I have seem not to have clarified this:

I asked the question a few (not very long ago, I took poetic license with the word "many"; stupid me) months ago, and was under the impression that Bandai would not release a collector's set, even though the series had finished its run on Tech tv. I was waiting for another set to come out, and upon hearing discouraging remarks (I get the feeling people are out to contradict others in the world of message boards), I decided that it wouldn't happen; I shouldn't have relied on the understanding of others. I should have been patient and waited for what I wanted to happen. Lesson learned.

I purchased all of the DVDs for the last two seasons a couple of months ago (roughly), and now they release the collections.

Of course things change, I can tell you that I am not naive to that; however, it seems my luck that I will purchase one dvd and then the whole bloomin' collection comes out, and I feel disappointed in the timing.

As for the "month-after" bit, I was being overly dramatic to get the point across, exaggerating, really. Apparently, I failed and I hope someone can understand my woes.

Thanks for the reply- sometimes it's hard to read a rant.

Please understand that I like ANN. I have nothing against them. My problem is with Bandai and myself. ANN was the messenger, and as such, should not be shot.

But, seeing as I am not making things clear, any points (or shots for that matter) shall be missed.

Thanks for the reply.

Did they really say it wouldn't? After they released the collection of Crest of the Stars I thought it was fairly obvious that they would release collections of the Banner of the Stars series as well down the line. Did anyone really doubt that they would?

This is what was posted to my original question:

"When asked recently, Bandai said no. It may change someday, but if you want to pick up the series, it's probably best to go for it now. I don't think you'll see a discounted collection anytime soon.

Sadly, the novels aren't available in the US right now. May happen eventually, but like the Banner collections, there's nothing even close to official confirmation."

I didn't doubt it until I was thinking seriously about purchasing the entire series. Anime ain't cheap, esp. in the States, so I was looking for the best deal. I am just disappointed.

Oh, well, there's eBay to sell on. I just keep losing money, you know. It makes me sad, realy.

You asked this awhile ago. The last time you posted was Nov. 30, 2003 (until today), and that thread was started way back in Sept. 2003. It is almost October 2004 now. So this was a year ago? Well if you were so into getting collectors edition of the series, you would've been checking sites daily/weekly to see if they were ever gonna do a collections edition set. Atleast that is what I would do if I was hoping for a series I liked to come out with a collectors edition. So you should've been looking too, things change, ANN does it's best to get us the news about the things we ask. But companies make changes to there line ups, etc. So you should check up on incoming products.

Well of course Bandai said no, they wanted to make money off the individual releases. Don't listen to the companies, listen to your intuition as an anime fan.

Again, I am not upset with ANN.

I learned a lesson.

Why so spiteful...makes me sad.

Like I said, I blindly followed and didn't look. My fault, but that doesn't mean that my feelings are wrong. I am sorry if I am not scouring the net for press releases all the time, though I have no problem with those who do. Plus, my parents were going through the process of divorce in addition to school studies.

And besides, one year (12 months mind you) is recent in the world of anime.

I guess I shouldn't have said anything -- seeing as I have brought wrath upon myself.

There is a problem with listening to advice on internet message boards. Even a well informed community (as I might hope ANN is) can't know everything.

As far as the collectors edition. I work on the assumption that every series will eventually get a collectors edition. The only question is whether you have the patience to wait for it or not.

Or do like I do. But the individual discs first, watch it. If you love the series enough, and they eventually have a collector's boxed set, buy it too. Usually, I don't bother because there's little extras included in the collector's boxed sets (at least in the context of anime that are released in Singapore) and it doesn't make a difference to the viewing pleasure. Besides, with the finicky nature of the anime market here in Singapore, you'd better grab whatever you can while they have it in the stores. Because you might find that not long after, they're all gone without any chance of the anime being re-released.

So, we've decided that, because the original post was _a year old_ that Bandai had PLENTY of time to change their business plans, and ANN's information was accurate, for 2003. Right?

Ok, good. Let's lock this one.
