I watched and enjoyed season one and did not finish season two the ED to season one is till probably one of my favorite ending or opening themes in Anime. Sad to hear the translation was not that great.

"Rittie" was in the Crunchyroll subs too so it sounds like they just used those. So basically Funi is just realeasing this on Crunchy's behalf and putting zero effort into it.

...Yeah, I'm still really, really bitter that this is DVD only.

I was happy the OAVs were included with this release, they helped to flesh out some characters that didn't get as much time in the series. In particular, I would have loved to have more than one episode from Takano's POV. His relentless pursuit of Onodera makes much more sense once you realize what kind of home life he had in the past.

Kisa and Yukina were my favorite couple for many of the reasons stated in the review. It's rather adorable seeing Kisa's cynical nature come up against Yukina's cheerful demeanor. Opposites do attract in this case. Smile

You'd think they'd at least put a little effort into this release considering how well YoI sold and this series is pretty popular among the same demographic.

Pretty disappointed in this release. No blu ray release, and no dub either, from the people who dubbed Hand Shakers and Bikini Warriors of all things. I'm not a big dub person but I know people who would've loved to see that for this title.

Beach reading is right! After some trying times, this put me in a happy place. I would have liked BluRay also, but we can hope for something later. After all, Jungou Romantica is getting a full BluRay release this year.

I don't think all the OVAs are here. Correct me, but I think the Kirishima x Yokozawa one is not here and it's a good one. (Yes, he's reversible!) This couple, as with Hatori x Yoshino, is covered in light novels.

I bought little BL material of any kind in the last ten years (none after 2011), so this set, along with the manga (and Ten Count!), are first purchases in a long time. BL had become "same story, different pictures" for me. It's nice to be back.

I was a little disheartened to see so much digital ink spent on con/noncon issues still. I don't have a problem with it and maybe I'm just a bad person. This title isn't Legend of the Blue Wolves, after all. Now that's real noncon!

Thanks for the review.

It's a damned-if-I-do-damned-if-I-don't situation with the noncon stuff - I mention it, people get upset. I don't, people ask how I could have missed it. Laughing (Probably university-wide sessions on trigger warnings don't help; it's become the sort of thing I have to have on my mind.) My general feeling is that it isn't my cup of tea, but if it's yours, go for it. Fiction's for everyone, right?

There were only two OVA episodes. Yokozawa and Kirishima's relationship was covered in the "Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi: Yokozawa Takafumi no Baai" film, which wasn't licensed by FUNimation. A bit weird considering they went to the trouble of getting the OVAs.

I think I've expressed my appreciation before when there is simple acknowledgement of such content among other subject matter. But, I very much do appreciate it. Very occasionally embarrassingly silly things can affect my mental health. I'm always working to mitigate that in many ways.

So personally I think this kind of subject matter is proper for people to mention, and in particular it's been my experience that it isn't mentioned or even recognized enough in the BL circles I used to be around for some reason. Just recognizing something has particular content doesn't need to be an Indictment of it or its fans.(I've seen some moral battles for years around the fan community too.) When it comes to fiction I couldn't care less what someone else has for a fantasy or fetish. However, I do care when I personally get very inappropriate recommendations from fans, which has happened far too often with this genre.

I agree with you absolutely. There should always be a mention of those things that could bother folks. The problem lies with no agreed upon standard so we often see evaluative overkill. I think that's what happened here. I don't like to see noncom demonized. I'm over 60 (yet under 100!) and could be looking into the jaws of death at any time. I'm going with all kinks fully loaded.

And this is not a knock on the reviewer. I may not agree but I do respect the job and the effort. We are an ungrateful public. Rebecca, thank you for you service.

BL can be so much more than what we are seeing currently in English. Granted, I've just comeback from a loooong hiatus so may not have a good enough grasp on the current state of affairs. The important thing is to keep talking with respect.

I think Answerman already answer this question about why BL anime rarely get dubbed animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2017-05-05/.115662

Think you got that backwards. Sekai Ichi fans might be YOI fans, but most YOI fans aren't Sekai Ichi fans. 5K VS 60K. YOI has way broader appeal.

Well said.

As a newly-minted YOI die-hard, I'm sad to say I never got into Sekai Ichi. Its art and animation aren't the strongest, its recurring consent issues are a personal deterrent, and its character designs have trouble standing apart. All told, I couldn't find anything to love about the series in spite of the praise I've heard from others.

YOI is a different beast altogether imho.
