You do know it's a spinoff of Sengoku Basara, right? Very Happy Which takes place in the (franchise's very historically inaccurate version of) Sengoku period and the characters are all based on historical figures? In Sengoku Basara, at least in the incarnations made before it started taking itself seriously and killed most of its fun, most of the characters are specifically designed to riff on the personality of and stereotypes about their historical counterparts. Ie. Date Masamune's larger-than-life personality and interest in western culture manifest in him being basically a bousouzoku leader with a tendency for gratuitous English, Sanada Yukimura is the usual Sanada Yukimura tropes turned UP TO ELEVEN, Uesugi Kenshin's gender is ambiguous and he(?) speaks in a very flowery language, the "never a scratch on him, invincible" Honda Tadakatsu is an actual cyborg, the missionary Francesco Xavier is preaching Xavism, a mysterious and utterly weird religion of love and peace and destruction, Oda Nobunaga is an actual demon (...sort of), etc.

Since this show is a spinoff of an existing franchise and most of the jokes are going to be self-referential, I really suggest at least watching Production IG's 2007 Sengoku Basara anime series (or playing the first two games if you can) - it's two 13 episode series and a movie. It's lots of fun, albeit with a tendency to spit on historical accuracy and dance on its grave.
