Yes, it’s rather amusing that they tended to swap the n-word for Indians, and then that became just as politically incorrect at the end of the day.

I think I may have to read these now (shock of shocks); I read the first two omnibuses a couple years back before my current manga predilections and they didn’t really grab me. But knowing there’s a long game makes me far more interested - as does the Christie connection.

I'm glad that you've enjoyed it so! A lot of people really hated the implication that spoiler[Beatrice was biologically male] so there was an enormous pushback to the culprit reveal initially. I'm glad that, especially with the manga's more explicit reveal, it's become easier to swallow in this modern day and age. Because, really, it was incredibly foreshadowed and the buildup was really very well done.

I only disliked it because it ruisn the impication of a certain character being lesbian, but otherwise was ok with it, I wonder how many more "hated" it by that reason as umineko is very yuri bait (bern and lambda, erika and dlanor).
Also, the manga, be it ebcasuse pacing, amde a very good job of putting rosa ina good light again, the novel kind of drowned a specific scene that really improves her character.

Any plans to review the final volume yet? Or did this get dropped/postponed indefinitely? I was curious to read final thoughts about this manga series now it's over, as it has been enlightening to see the opinion of a mystery genre fan who hasn't played the original sound novels, given the nature of this work of so-called "anti-mystery versus anti-fantasy", as Ryuukishi07 labels it.

My own opinion is that despite the issue of representing colored text in monochrome, the manga does a better job of explaining the solution, while the original deliberately left itself more open for interpretation and required multiple playthroughs to fit some of the loose pieces that were not explicitly made clear until Ryuukishi07 added them into the manga adaptation years later. Much was originally meant to be inferred (as part of the "game" played with the readers and to encourage alternate readings) without ever being explicitly told until then.

I totally understand how full your plate probably has been, and you probably have a lot you want to say, so I will continue to wait patiently if you do expect to conclude this series of reviews. Otherwise, thanks for sticking through it up to here! I am glad you got to the point where it's clearer what the motive of the fantasy elements actually was in the end.
