This is a nice surprise. I honestly thought it was going to stay in production hell. Now let us get a date for that Pluto adaptation... I should probably watch dennou coil now.

It's great to see him directing again. Someone as talented as him should get more opportunities for that.
The project sounds like it could be interesting, but it's got a long way to go... 2022 will hopefully be a nice normal year with promising anime projects like this. |

Dennou Coil remains one of my top-ten shows of all time. I strongly recommend watching it.

Going by the first four episodes I wouldn't call the show "excellent" (it's not bad, though, but I think it's just very very basic), but more importantly, I'd just like to point out that perhaps the subtitles should be re-translated by someone who knows/cares about what they're doing. The very first scene of the very first episode has the sort of mistranslation that not only makes the dialogue make no sense in context of the scene, it also creates a hugely misleading situation that will probably confuse the hell out of people later on. spoiler[(According to the subtitles Touya & Chief are talking about Touya removing his own cognitive limiter - except actually it's the drone AI's cognitive limiter they're talking about, whose existence, and Touya fiddling with it, is a huge plot point that comes into play not much later on. People thinking that Touya has one will be really confused.)] Many other mistranslations happen later on, too, but this is extra facepalm-worthy... Also makes me wonder if the translator was even watching the scene they were working on, because it's just so obvious what the characters are referring to. And since translations to other languages have been done from English... well congrats to Netflix's awesome QA, I guess. |
