Afaik the anime that will be released this summer will be free to watch on YouTube, without any need to get involved with NFTs or crypto. It was just a new way to crowdfund the creation of the anime and let supporters be involved in the process.

I dig the 90s aesthetic myself. I wish we got more anime that tried to replicate that style like some modern games replicate 8bit and 16bit graphics.

It's also a good way to get far less supporters because you're still trying to hawk NFTs at people lol

NFTs are just a neutral technology, like email. It's the people that can use the technology in a good way or a bad way. Funding an anime is probably one of the best things that has been done with NFTs so far.

And yet is still worse than traditional funding or basic crowdfunding. What a great “neutral” technology that has zero advantage over other systems but introduces even more downsides!

Funding through blockchain ensures that 100% of the funds raised go to the creators themselves. Compare that to a for-profit company like Kickstarter that takes 5% of all funds raised, with an additional 3-5% going to Stripe, their payment provider. Resulting in them extracting 10's of millions of dollars per year for basically hosting the platform, money that could have gone to creators instead.
Also many Galverse NFT holders have actively provided input into the creative process of making the anime. The community is vibrant and full of great artists that have found each other through Galverse. This level of active supporter participation is something that you don't see in traditional (crowd)funding.

Yes, you can download any image online for free. I think everybody knows that. The point is the underlying token. The image is just metadata.

I made an account because I witnessed closely the hard work that the Galverse team and community did over the last 3 years and would like to support them. This is a thread about the Shinsei Galverse anime, right?
Though I understand alot of the criticism that blockchain and NFTs are getting in general, directing that to one of the few teams that actually achieved something is quite unfair in my opinion. Galverse are not scammers or grifters, but unfortunately many people prefer to mindlessly hate, rather than doing any research.
Just watch the anime when it comes out, no NFTs needed

Please explain how this specific project scammed people when an anime is releasing with known industry professionals on the staff and VAs? I wouldn't call this a waste at all. How is how the anime was funded any different than if it were funded with say Kickstarter? Surely any skeptics can see that both have the likelihood of it not coming to fruition but in this case it has.

Love the VAs!! It's so cool to see a stacked cast for an original anime like this! Hope everyone gives it a chance and judge it based off the anime itself~ I have high hopes!!
