Funimation doing a sub-only release? Just what the heck is going on here? Sure this is apparently an import but it's still a weird move from them and they certainly picked a strange title to experiment with considering how well known and liked the GiTS dubs are. Hopefully they'll do some kind of bilingual release later down the line but this is just plain strange...

Wow, I just asked for it and Funimation answered.

Okay... uh... gee, I sure wish somebody would license the 110 episode 1980s classic, Legend of the Galactic Heroes!

Now we play the waiting game!

Um... holy crap, that was fast. It still has a week to go before it gets released IN JAPAN. Props to you, Funimation.

Not true I believe. The article said "This special edition will be a limited single run printing of 2,500 units and will be on sale prior to FUNimation's typical English language home video release." So I'm guessing this would be a quicker released blu-ray and then a dub is to come out later.

Quote:
Flower Mound, TX – June 14, 2013 – FUNimation announced today that it has acquired rights to Ghost in the Shell: Arise. They plan to release a special edition subtitle-only Blu-ray containing the imported Japanese O-card, Blu-ray discs, and film strip along with an English translated art booklet. This special edition will be a limited single run printing of 2,500 units and will be on sale prior to FUNimation’s typical English language home video release. FUNimation will also be screening parts 1 & 2 of the OVA series in a limited theatrical run later this year.

...Intriguing, but weird. I still want a dubbed version with everyone coming back for their roles (especially the big three with Togusa, Batou, and Kusanagi)

There's obviously going to be a dub for this, later on, that's a given. My assumption is that Funimation wants this title out on the market ASAP, and I don't blame them for making a move like a sub-only import BD.

Funimation can use their own in-house talent pool for the dub. The characters are younger, they don't need to be the same VAs as in SAC.

Cool. But I'll be waiting for the regular US market release, not because I require a dud (I do not) but I figure it'll cost less, and aren't there more OVA episodes then just two? So I'll want matching english releases, or a complete set.

Cool that Funi is getting the import version out in the US faster though.

Blame globalism? With better connectedness, we're either doing to be streaming/downloading, or finding price points climb higher and close to what the otaku pay.

I guess FUNi can call this import a technicality to claim that they're still a dub-only company.

Definitely everyone. It's rare that it happens, but I absolutely adored the GitS dubs. Anything less than the full cast would fell kinda sad and unnatural for me at this point. Although that may be a by-product of watching it so much.

From Funi's press release: "This special edition will be a limited single run printing of 2,500 units and will be on sale prior to FUNimation’s typical English language home video release."

Guess there's still hope that we'll get a reasonably priced blu-ray some time later this year.

Wait, wait. Funimation is doing import releases, too? I want to play this game.

Okay, I sure wish the Steins;Gate movie will have a quick import release before the standard English release just like Arise.
