Seeing how badly it fell on its face, is anyone that surprised? Hollywood just can not do good anime. Laughing

Disappointing news, but not entirely surprising, considering Pacific Rim underperformed. How Universal went about green lighting this in the first place is a real mystery.

Apparently somehow people still aren't aware how successful Pacific Rim was overseas. It made plenty of money for a sequel.

Yeah, the movie made 400+ million, more than double its budget, enough to be profitable. It was no super hit, but "how badly it fell on its face" is just very wrong.

$411 world wide on a $190 budget is not plenty of money after advertising it probably lost money especially with $111 million of that WW gross coming from China where the studios see at most 30%.

The film bombed and was only being considered for a sequel as a growth project but as always del toro won't slash the budget enough in case the fantasised growth isn't there, that's why there was no hellboy 3 either.

It sounds a lot more like it fell through cracks during a tug-of-war between studios, rather than anything to do with budgets or box office grosses for Pacific Rim specifically.

So did Tron: Legacy. But Disney chickened out after Tomorrowland flopped. Now they only care about animation, Star Wars and Marvel.

And so Pacific Rim 2 shares the fate of Hellboy III: not gonna happen.

Not wrong here in the UK. However if it weren't for China it would have been a lot poorer in its total take. Maybe the Chinese film studios can make the sequel.

Curious: How will the Godzilla/Kong movie work???

We all saw how gigantic Godzilla(2014) was compared to Kong(any year).

But for some reason that Akira movie just has to be made?
I don't understand Hollywood logic.
