Animatrix's Morimoto to Show How to Make Anime in Video

posted on by Egan Loo
Animator of Memories, Genius Party, Akira, Macross + to stream kids' workshop on Friday

On Friday, Tama City's Parthenon Tama center will stream a video workshop in which The Animatrix co-director Koji Morimoto will teach children how to make anime. In this special program celebrating the 25th anniversary of the center, everyone who watches will learn to make their own flipbook-style animation. The three-hour workshop will start on the Ustream website at 1:00 p.m. Japan Time (midnight EDT).

Morimoto directed the Magnetic Rose segment of Katsuhiro Otomo's Memories, the Beyond segment in The Animatrix, and the Dimension Bomb segment of Genius Party Beyond. Morimoto worked on music videos for Ken Ishii, Hikaru Utada, Glay, System 7, Genki Rockets, Tamurapan, Masterlink, and others. He also worked as an animator or animation director on Akira, Macross Plus, and many other titles.

As a founding member, Morimoto worked at Studio 4°C from 1989 to 2011. He now helms the new Φphy creative team as Executive Art Director. "Attraction," Morimoto's 10-minute "interactive" anti-smoking short, won a Silver Cyber Lions honor at last year's Cannes Lions festival.
