Akibaranger-themed café opens in Akihabara's Electric Town

Toei began streaming the first teaser video on Friday for the second season of its Hikōnin Sentai Akibaranger (Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger) live-action television series. The video is a clip from the "Chōeiyūsai Kamen Rider x Super Sentai Live & Show 2013" stage event held last Friday where actor Masato Wada, as his delivery man character Nobuo Akagi, announces the show's second season, and then Akiba Red himself appears on stage.

The staff of the first Akibaranger season boasted several live-action special-effects (tokusatsu) and anime veterans, such as director Ryuta Tazaki (Kamen Rider), director/character designer Keiichi Satou (Karas, Tiger & Bunny), writer Naruhisa Arakawa (Kamen Rider Kuuga, Spice and Wolf, Steel Angel Kurumi), and composer Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Death Note, Eden of the East). Voice actresses Maaya Uchida (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions), Halko Momoi (Lovedol ~Lovely Idol~), and Rica Matsumoto (Pokémon's Ash Ketchum/Satoshi) also made appearances in the program.

Hikounin Sentai Akibaranger follows delivery man and Super Sentai fan Nobuo Akagi, martial artist Mitsuki Aoyagi and cosplayer Yumeria Moegi after they are recruited by café owner Hiroyo Hakase to become the Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger. They protect Tokyo's Akihabara otaku shopping district from the evil Malseena and the Stema Otsu Corporation, despite the fact it is all a ruse.

The official website for the series also revealed on Tuesday that it has opened an "Akibaranger Mōsō Kichi" (Akibaranger Delusion Base) café on Wednesday at the Pasela store in Akihabara's "Electric Town." The café is modeled after the secret base in the show. Those who visit the café and order any item from the menu will receive a limited original badge. The café will run through February 17.
