Danganronpa The Animation and the American live-action film Ted are collaborating in a joint promotional campaign featuring the anime's Monokuma character and the film's title bear. The television commercial and poster campaign promotes both works' Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases.

The television anime premiered in Japan on July 4 on MBS' "Animeism" block, and the first Blu-ray Disc and DVD volume will ship in Japan on Wednesday. Ted earned 4.2 billion yen (about US$43 million) in box office revenue after opening in Japan on January 18. The film's Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases are on sale now.

A promotional poster includes the following message: "In Summer 2013, watch out! Bears are taking over all of Japan!" The "hijack" poster will appear in eleven locations in Japan, and the first appeared in Tokyo's JR Ikebukuro Station on Monday. The commercial will debut on television and YouTube in the beginning of September. Nobuyo Oyama narrates the ad as the monochrome bear Monokuma.

The "Dangan Game 'White and Black' Play Video" also began streaming on Friday. The anime's first Blu-ray Disc and DVD volume includes the video that features voice actress Megumi Ogata (voice of Makoto Naegi), director Seiji Kishi, scenario writer and supervisor Kazutaka Kodaka, and sound director Satoki Iida.

In the game, the players hold a "class trial." Each player picks a character card with a Dangan Ronpa character card and a card that puts them on the "white team" or "black team." The sole member of the black team is a secret.

Danganronpa the Animation adapts Spike Chunsoft's PlayStation Portable action-adventure game. Persona 4: The Animation's Kishi is directing the series, which features the same cast as the game.

The story follows a group of high school students, each with a different exceptional talent, who are locked inside a school and told that the only way to escape is to kill another student without getting caught. After a murder, the remaining students must hold a trial with their lives on the line to find out who the killer is.
