posted on
Black Jack to be first of a series of new Animes based on Tezuka stories to be made available online. J-Pop superstar, Utada Hikaru to participate as a voice actress.

According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the Wall Street Journal of Japan, Tezuka Productions announced on June 26th that they will be webcasting
Anime series based on the works of Osamu Tezuka through the Internet.

Black Jack is the first series that will be made available online, running from August 2001 until January 2002, two episodes a month. Each episode will have a running time of approximately 11 minutes.

Access to the episodes will be granted at a price of 600 yen (US$7) per month or 2850 yen (US$30) for the entire series. Originally the episodes were only to be available in Japanese, but according to a post on the jpopusaeast mailing list, they will also be available in English (we don't know whether they are to be subbed or dubbed, we are looking into this).

Top J-Pop star, Utada Hikaru (family name first), will be one of the Seiyuu (Voice Actress) involved; she plays the part of Black Jack's assistant, Binoko. The 18 year old singer, who holds Japan's record for CD sales, is said to have been a fan of the Black Jack Series since she was a young girl.
