Ending theme sells out almost immediately, ranks highly in Amazon sales chart

The Hare Hare Yukai (ハレ晴レユカイ) CD single, ending theme of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, was released at various storefronts in Akihabara on May 10. By the end of the same day, all stores were sold out, the scene was repeated the next day when stores that received more stock again sold out.

The CD is also sold out at many online retailers, including Amazon Japan, where it reached #1 on their CD sales chart and is now listed as shipping in 4-6 weeks.

Bouken Desho Desho?, the opening theme of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was released on April 26 and is ranked #10 in Amazon Japan's CD sales chart.

The only other anime soundtrack CD in Amazon Japan's top 10 is the Eureka 7 Complete Best OST, which was released on May 7 and is ranked #3. Red Hot Chili Peppers' Stadium Arcadium, which includes Dani California, the theme for the upcoming Death Note live-action movie, is ranked #9.

We recently reported on the very strong Amazon Japan ranking of the books on which the The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime is based. Five of the eight books released to date still hold 5 of the top 10 spots (#6 to #10) on Amazon Japan's top selling books list.

Thanks to Dormcat for pointing this out.

Please note: Bouken Desho Desho? Reached second position on Amazon close to its release date.
