Ai No Kusabi Offered on Amazon Kindle E-Book Devices

Novel basis for boys-love anime now on 3 Kindle devices, iPhone, iPod touch

The North American publisher Digital Manga Publishing announced on Tuesday that it is offering Rieko Yoshihara's Ai no Kusabi: The Space Between Vol. 1: Stranger boys-love novel as its first offering on Amazon's Kindle Store for electronic books. Kindle Books can be read on Amazon's own Kindle devices (in three different versions) and Apple's iPhone and iPod touch mobile devices. Yoshihara's novels inspired two Ai no Kusabi anime videos in 1992 and 1994, and a new 13-volume video anime project was announced at the end of last year.

Ai no Kusabi's story is set in the future on the planet named Amoi, which is controlled by a supercomputer named Jupiter. Among the mostly male human population, the light-haired elite class is allowed to temporarily keep the dark-haired "mongrels" as pets. One elite member, Iason, encounters a mongrel named Riki in the slums and decides to take him in. However, Iason keeps Riki longer than it is socially approved, and rumors abound about their possible relationship.

Shōsetsu June magazine serialized the original novel run from 1986 to 1987, and six volumes have since been written and published. Digital Manga announced its license for the novels at Yaoi-Con in 2006, and it released the fifth volume in March.
