Kawaguchi's Eagle Manga Gets Live-Action Korean Show

posted on by Egan Loo
Viz published Kaiji Kawaguchi's story of man who would be president

Starting this December, actor Choi Soo-Jong will star in President, a live-action Korean television series based on Kaiji Kawaguchi's political manga Eagle. Choi will play Jang Il-Joon, the prodigious young man born into a family of ordinary educators. He graduates from a prestigious law school and begins his career as a civil rights lawyer. He eventually rises to the National Assembly, and he sets his sights on the presidency.

In Kawaguchi's original Eagle manga, the main character is a Japanese-American who vies for the American presidency; in the upcoming live-action version, the main character is a Korean native who vies for the South Korean presidency. Son Young-Mok is writing the live-action version, and Kim Hyung-Il is directing.

Viz published the original manga in North America, and the manga received a Eisner Award nomination in 2002. Kawaguchi also created The Silent Service and Zipang manga, and both spawned anime. He ended his Zipang manga last year, and then he launched a new manga called Boku wa Beatles (We Are The Beatles) this year.
