Hiroshima Streams I.G's Letter to Momo Anime Tourism Ads
posted on by Egan Loo
Hiroshima Prefecture's "Hiroshima Tourism Navigator" website has begun streaming two commercials with footage from Production I.G's A Letter to Momo anime film. The ads will then be shown at local theaters and storefront displays, starting on January 28.
In the two different commercials, Karen Miyama and Yūka — the voice actresses behind the title character Momo Miyaura and her mother Ikuko — encourage people to visit Hiroshima to see the same sights that appear in the film.
In the film, Momo struggles with her father's sudden passing and resulting move to the countryside. The girl finds an otherworldly surprise at her new home. Hiroyuki Okiura spent seven years planning, writing, storyboarding, and directing the film; it is his first return to the proverbial director's chair since Jin-Roh in 2000.
Masashi Ando (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away) is overseeing the animation process. Among the animators on the team are Toshiyuki Inoue (Akira), Ei Inoue (The Cat Returns), Takeshi Honda (Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance), Tetsuya Nishio (Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence), and Hiroyuki Aoyama (Summer Wars). Hiroshi Ohno (Kiki's Delivery Service) is serving as art director.
The film held its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and will open in Japan on April 21.
