The Pokemon Company Japan began streaming six TV commercials for the Pocket Monsters: The Origin television anime special on Friday. The commercials come in 30-second, Red, Green, Professor Ōkido, Takeshi, and Sakaki versions. Each ad explains that the special was "made for people who played Red and Green (Blue in North America)."
The official website for the special also revealed that voice actor Rikiya Koyama (Utawarerumono's Hakuoro, Fate/Zero's Kiritsugu) will play the role of Sakaki (Giovanni), the leader of the evil organization Team Rocket.
Koyama will be joining Junko Takeuchi (Naruto's titular character, Yes! Precure 5's Rin) as Red, Katsuji Mori (Gatchaman's Ken Washio, Gatchaman Crowds' J.J. Robins) as Professor Ōkido (Professor Oak), Takuya Eguchi (Inu X Boku Secret Service's Banri, Gosick's Kujō) as rival Green and Tomokazu Sugita (Gintama's Gintoki, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya's Kyon) as gym leader Takeshi (Brock).
In the anime's story, Red encounters a strange Pokémon in the fierce battle with Team Rocket's leader Sakaki (Giovanni). The characters are based on Nintendo's original Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green (released as Pokémon Blue in North America) video games. Rival Green, Gym Leader Takeshi (Brock), Red's mother, and Team Rocket also appear in this special set in Kanto, the first region ever seen in the Pokémon franchise.
The anime will air at 7 p.m. JST on October 2.
