GeGeGe no Kitaro Anime Reveals Cast for 'Western Yōkai' Arc

New arc featuring traditional Western monsters debuts on October 7

The official website for the new Gegege no Kitarō anime revealed new cast members for the anime's new "Seiyō Yōkai-hen" (Western Yōkai Arc) on Thursday. The new cast members include:

Hideyuki Tanaka as Backbeard, the Western yōkai's strongest emperor who has ambitions to rule the world. In pursuit of Agnes, who stole the Ring of Arcana, he arrives in Japan with his followers.

Hibiku Yamamura as Agnes, a Western yōkai witch who is fleeing from Backbeard. She meets Kitarō, and teams up with him. Her frank and free spirited nature initially leads to conflict between her and Kitarō.

Yukana as Adel, a leader among Backbeard's followers. Like her sister Agnes, she is a witch. She commands an elite team of yōkai in Japan in pursuit of Agnes. She prides herself as a member of a family that has served Backbeard for generations, so her sister Agnes' betrayal has particularly angered her.

Takeshi Kusao as Wolfgang, a member of Backbeard's followers. He can transform from a human to a werewolf. His close range combat abilities are his strong point.

Ryoko Shiraishi as Victor Frankenstein, a member of Backbeard's followers, and a cruel mad scientist. He is the greatest scientist among the Western yōkai. He normally takes the form of a young boy, but is able to enlarge his body to a monstrous size in certain circumstances.

Shiori Izawa as Carmilla, a member of Backbeard's followers, and a fighter who is efficient at using cunning and traps. She uses her bewitching beauty to entrance anyone she wants before sucking their blood. Anyone whose blood she sucks ends up becoming her slave.

The new arc will debut on October 7, and will center on the Western yōkai world's treasure, the "Ring of Arcana." A witch names Agnes steals the ring and flees. The Western yōkai's strongest emperor, Backbeard, and its followers follow Agnes to Japan. Agnes encounters Kitarō, and asks for his help.

The anime premiered on April 1 and replaced Dragon Ball Super in the same timeslot. The anime will run for 50+ episodes. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs.

Kouji Ogawa is serving as series director while Hiroshi Ohnogi (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) is handling series composition. Sorato Shimizu is the character designer and chief animation director. Yasuharu Takanashi (Fairy Tail) and -yaiba- (Naruto Shippūden) are composing the music. Fuji TV, Yomiuri Advertising, and Toei Animation are producing.

Kiyoshi Hikawa is performing the anime's current classic opening theme song "Gegege no Kitarō," and Rekishi, musician Takafumi Ikeda's "solo unit," is performing the new ending theme song "Get A Note" (pronounced "Geta no Oto," which translates to "The Sound of Geta Footwear").
