Sega announced on Sunday the staff, cast, episode count, and October premiere for Phantasy Star Online 2: Episode Oracle, the new television anime adaptation of its Phantasy Star Online 2 game.

The anime stars: (the cast members aside from Daisuke Ono are reprising their roles from the game)

Masaki Tachibana (Princess Principal, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0) is directing the anime at GONZO. Hiroshi Ohnogi (GeGeGe no Kitarō, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) is handling the series composition, and he is also writing the scripts alongside Shigeru Morita and Bunsei Asanuma. Shinpei Koikawa (guest character design for Aquarion Logos, sub-character design for High School DxD Hero) is designing the characters and Eriko Kimura (Tiger & Bunny, Lu over the wall, Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt) is the sound director. Felix Film is handling the 3DCG.

The anime premiere in October on Tokyo MX and BS11, and will have a total of 25 episodes. The show will recompile the story of "Episodes 1-3" of the original game, and will also include an original story.

The game previously inspired a television anime titled Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation. The anime features a completely original story. The 12-episode series premiered in January 2016, and Sentai Filmworks and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. Sentai Filmworks released the series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in March 2017.

More recently, the game's official Puso Ni Comi: Phantasy Star Online 2 Comic web manga inspired a series of web anime shorts that began streaming weekly on the Phantasy Star channels on YouTube and Niconico on January 8.

Sega released the free-to-play Phantasy Star Online 2 role-playing game for Windows PC in Japan in 2012, followed by a PlayStation Vita release in 2013, and an Android and iOS release in April and May 2014, respectively. The game debuted on PlayStation 4 in April 2016. The most recent episode in the game, "Episode 6," launched on April 24.

A cloud version of the game for Nintendo Switch titled Phantasy Star Online 2 Cloud launched in April 2018, and then launched for PC on December 19.

Microsoft announced at E3 in June that it will release the game on Xbox One in North America in spring 2020.
