TAMPA BAY, FL , September 27, 2006 – METROCON: Amano's World is very proud to announce the first ever: Ringling School of Art and Design* “Summer Art Studio's” Metrocon Grant.


Three lucky Metrocon attendees will be the recipients of this prestigious award which will allow them to attend the Summer Art Studio of their choice. In addition, the student will receive a $75 voucher for art supplies!

Signup will be at the Ringling School booth in the vendor's room. Winners will be announced at closing ceremonies and they must be present to receive the grant.


NOTE: Airfare, travel and lodging not included in grant package.

Kick up your creative style this summer. Explore new and cool ways to express your imagery. Studios are one week or two, in the morning or the afternoon. Try one, as many as you like, or get really good at one or two. Just getting started, or working on your portfolio for college admission? We've got what you need to get it going, and have an awesome time doing it!

METROCON guests include Yoshitaka Amano (guest of honor) - best known for his illustrations for Vampire Hunter D and for his character designs for the video game series Final Fantasy, ADV DVD Producer David Williams, voice actors and artists Doug Smith, Steve Bennett, and Lauren Goodnight.



METROCON: Amano's World, a 2 day look into the mind of Yoshitaka Amano, is a spin-off convention of METROCON, known as the largest anime convention in Florida . METROCON celebrates the numerous facets of Japanese popular entertainment – from anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comics), J-pop and J-rock (Japanese pop and rock music, performed by “idols”) to cosplay (costume design and performance) and video games.



Events at METROCON: Amano's World this year include: Panels and autograph signings with Yoshitaka Amano, a formal ballroom dance, Artists' Alley; costume contest, dealers'/exhibition room, official convention screenings of new North American releases, panels with North American anime industry guests, Live Celebrity Commentaries with the industry guests, Dances and karaoke, the METROCADE video game room and finally, continuous hours of Japanese anime and related programming.



METROCON takes place at the Tampa Convention Center located in downtown Tampa , Florida .
