Brandon Smith Wins Cardfight!! Vanguard World Championship 2012

Tokyo, Japan (Dec. 9, 2012) – Brandon Smith of Berkley, MI, USA won the first ever Cardfight!! Vanguard World Championship, topping a field of eight players representing Cardfight!! Vanguard champions from around the world. The Cardfight!! Vanguard World Championship took place at the Tokyo Dome Hotel and was one of several card game world championships featured in Bushiroad's Fighters Climax 2012 and World Grand Prix 2012 tournaments.

The eight competitors vying for the world championship consisted of Brandon Smith (North American Champion), Christopher Sok (North American 1st Runner Up), Gabriel Espinosa de los Monteros Escobedo (North American 2nd Runner Up), Raymond Wong (North American 3rd Runner Up), Christopher Fernau (European Champion), Irwin Jansen Arogo (Asia-Oceania Champion), Henry Suharto Rahardja Widjaya (Asia-Oceania 1st Runner Up), and Sham Chun Lok (Asia-Oceania 2nd Runner Up).

Mr. Smith faced off in the finals against Mr. Suharto in a heated match that saw many twists and turns. Mr. Smith had previously lost to Mr. Suharto in the qualifying matches for the top four. The match was streamed live to Japanese video sharing website Nico Nico Douga where viewers furiously posted comments directly to the video. The final game was a back and forth affair, but Mr. Smith was able to edge out Mr. Suharto for the victory, and the championship. For his efforts, Brandon Smith was awarded the Cardfight!! Vanguardd World Championship trophy.

Christopher Fernau of Germany, and Christopher Sok also from the USA, finished third and fourth respectively to round out the top four.
