Animation Director Toshihiro Kawamoto to Attend SMASH! 2014

May 18, 2014
Sydney, NSW, May 18, 2014 -- Known for bringing some of the best guests from Japan, SMASH! (Sydney Manga and Anime Show) is one of the finest anime conventions in Australia. With less than three months to go, SMASH! is thrilled to announce that the latest special guest to attend the convention will be the influential animation all-rounder, Toshihiro Kawamoto.

Toshihiro Kawamoto (川元 利浩) is a Japanese animator who is best known as the lead character designer and animation director of Cowboy Bebop.

Kawamoto also worked as a character designer in many other classic anime series including Wolf's Rain, Ghost Slayers Ayashi, and the Gundam OVA series (Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Last Blitz of Zeon, Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team).

SMASH! President Ray Elinon believes Toshihiro Kawamoto's attendance is a perfect addition to this year's impressive guest line-up, alongside Sailor Moon voice-actress, Kotono Mitsuishi.

“We are looking forward to having an incredibly talented animation director like Mr Kawamoto at this year's SMASH! convention,” Elinon said.

“Many Australian fans love classic shows such as Gundam and Cowboy Bebop. To have both Mr Kawamoto and Mrs Mitsuishi attending SMASH! 2014 is a dream come true for fans who grew up with these shows in the '90s and '00s.”

Gundam plays a significant role at SMASH! conventions every year with Gundam modelling being of the most highly-anticipated events at the convention.

Attendees will have the chance to build their very own Gundam kit, and also enter the international Gundam modelling competition, the Gunpla Builders World Cup.

“Mr Kawamoto's presence will not only bring excitement to the Gundam community but the anime community in general. This will be a great opportunity for aspiring illustrators and animators to learn from one of the industry's best animation directors,” Elinon said.

SMASH! (Sydney Manga and Anime Show) is a two-day Japanese pop-culture convention on August 9 and 10, 2014. Tickets to SMASH! 2014 will be available for purchase from May 19, 2014 with prices ranging from $25 to $55. For more ticketing information, visit www.smash.org.au.
