The Click
September 20th - 26th
by Brian Hanson,
The stress and rigors of my day job have fully taken their toll on me this week, so The Click will have to react accordingly. Which means I'll be typing it very quickly with my eyelids half-open, aching and yearning for sleep or whiskey or both. So!
Hellsing Ultimate
(Starz Edge)
-Sunday September 21 5:00am - Episode 3
-Monday September 22 4:20am - Episode 4
-Thursday September 25 4:00am - Episode 1
-Thursday September 25 5:00am - Episode 2
Hellsing Ultimate, for those few of you who are unaware, is a complete animated retelling of the original Hellsing manga. Like the TV series! Except with an actual "animation budget" to speak of. And condensed into fifty-minute episodes, instead of half-hour ones. But you still get all the crazy zombie violence, vampire havoc, and cigar-chomping British dignitaries that make you all giddy with retarded excitement. This isn't "new," since Hellsing Ultimate has aired before, but it's definitely worth a second watch; I didn't care for them much when Geneon was pushing them out through their dried up, filth-encrusted, about-to-be-shut-down coffers, but after giving them another go recently I had a newly founded respect for them. Especially after trying to re-watch the original series again, which... hasn't held up so well, let's face it.
PREMIERES:
Bakugan Battle Brawlers
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday September 20 11:00am - Episode 30 "I Am Marucho Hear Me Roar"
I guess the Bakugan toys are a pretty big deal now, since I'm literally seeing them everywhere; it's mildly revolting and yet heartwarming to know that you can still launch an anime series that is nothing more than an abject toy advertisement in 2008; now if they can only cause such a furor that kids start stabbing each other in school over them again...
Bleach

Wednesday September 24 10:00pm - Episode 8 "Fox Play" (Repeats Thu Sep 25 2:30am, 7:30pm)
I've long suspected there was something creepy about those Kabuki plays, what with the masks and chanting and whatnot; and now I have this here episode of Ghost Slayers Ayashi to prove my once-unfounded prejudices correct! Bless its heart!

Mai Hime
(ImaginAsianTV)
Wednesday September 24 8:00pm - Episode 8 "Important Thing" (Repeats Thu Sep 25 1:30am, 6:00pm)
Are school festivals that ubiquitous in Japan? I've come to distrust Japanese pop-culture as an accurate example of actual Japanese life, since discovering somewhat violently that schoolgirls will NOT flash their panties at strangers for little want or reason. Anyway, at THE SCHOOL FESTIVAL Mai accompanies her sickly brother in order to get him some fresh air and fun, except that plan turns sour when they meet up with some friends and wind up in a strange underground labyrinth.

Dans le pays merveilleux du Canada, Naruto mène une nouvelle équipe étudier quelqu'un qui peut savoir de Sasuke où.
Now and Then, Here and There
(Sci Fi)
Tuesday September 23 12:00am - Episode 13 "Now and Then, Here and There"
The last episode of this tremendously depressing series ends with a series of breakouts, clashes, crashes, and emotional climaxes. I wouldn't dare spoil anything, so go watch, everyone!

Pokemon
(Cartoon Network)
Saturday September 20 9:30am - Episode 542 "Staging A Heroes Welcome"
The Poke-friends are all entering a contest; nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, right? Except when egos and personalities get involved, and plenty of butthurt-edness abounds.
Scrapped Princess
(ImaginAsianTV)
Wednesday September 24 9:00pm - Episode 8 "Bonds and Prayers Nocturne" (Repeats Thu Sep 25 6:30pm)
That cute li'l orphan girl turns out to be a full-fledged assassin, and Pacifia must appeal to everyone's better natures to prevent an all-out bloodbath. I mean, besides the one she's prophesied to bring about.

MOVIES/FEATURES
Negadon: The Monster From Mars
(Sci Fi)
Tuesday September 23 12:30am
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
(Encore Action)
Wednesday September 24 3:35am
The fun if not terribly memorable or exciting Negadon CGI short film fills in a 30-minute gap on Sci Fi's Ani-Mondays, while Jin-Roh once again trods its heavily-armored self through the trenches of Encore's starved lineup. Ho and hum. I actually WON'T be back next week, guys; I've got some stuff to take care of that involves me not being around a computer too often. But the week after that? Provided I'm not mugged and killed in the street by penniless, desperate former Lehman Brothers investors, of course.
