Has anyone here read the manga Ray?
I've just bought and read volume 1 today and I think it's really interesting (for a synopsis go here). I can't wait to get the second volume. First of all I really like the art (the faces are very beautiful IMO and the women look "realistic", which I like) and the characters, especially Ray, are intelligent and complex. Also, I think the story is very gripping and different from most manga (I haven't seen another mystery/science-fiction manga where surgery is a big part of the story). I don't normally like medical-dramas but the fact that Ray has spoiler[X-Ray vision] makes it intriguing. Last but not least, the storyline sounds promising to me and I really hope the following volumes are as full of suspense as the first one. I'd like to hear your opinions on Ray! |

I read the first two volumes of Ray (I think that is all that is available in English), and like you I really enjoyed the first volume. I thought the art was a little more detailed and realistic than most manga and I also liked the fact that besides the x-ray vision and ability to use surgical instruments as weapons, and being a product of genetic engineering, Ray was a pretty normal person
I was completely shocked when the second installment turned to ludicrous comedy and outlandish plotlines. It tried to create some sort of X-files vibe but when it came time to have a big impact at the conclusion of each story, it really just became a big exercise in the Stupid Zone. I just knew I was in trouble when Mr. Sawa, Ray's cigar-smoking peg-legged mentor comes to Ray's rescue in one scene standing on top of a speeding car, and then launches himself into a snowbank, causing an avalanche which stops Ray's pursuers |

I saw this manga too and was quite interested in it. I haven't bought it (yet) though. From what I read, the story sounded interesting, but it could easily shift either way. Either it'd be an awesome manga with cool characters and complex/fun/wel thought out plotline and scenes, or it could fall back on everything that's been done before. I'd really like to know if more people read this manga and what they thought of it.
The style of the art and the presentation of the manga itself (cover design and material) look very well though. Farseer Ulthrion |

I don't know if it's a misprint or not but it looks like ADV is releasing the third volume of Ray this week.
That's been like a 5 month hiatus. That must say something about its popularity because it looks like the only manga they are realeasing that is not related to one of their anime. I loved volume 1 but hated volume 2 with a passion, but that's just me. Hopefully, they'll bring back some of their other forgotten manga. |

Second volume stinks huh? eh, I'll still buy it. I thought the first volume was okay not great.
ADV is really slow with some of their titles. I doubt I will ever seen another volume of Your and My Secret. I think it had been nearly a year since the first volume. Might be a year for the third vol. of Ray. |
