well I read the first manga and I thought it was alright. Pay close attention and you'll catch a Nirvana reference. I'm still trying to figure out if I should be upset by that or not. It's pretty funny and the art design is pretty cool. It's just kind of confusing but that can be forgiveable since it's just the first volume. That's where all the questions get asked but no answer. I think they recently came out with volume 2. And don't let Courtney Love's involvement throw you, she's probably just producing it if anything.

I agree, don't let Courtney Love's involvement freak you out. My initial reaction was - "she's a mangaka??!" Ai Yazawa does some of the character designs, if that helps any. I picked up volume one a while ago, and the plot isn't too bad. It takes a while to get used to Ai, so give it a chance. The art style is also really nice, though some parts need work. I've only gotten through volume one, so I can't tell how well the plot progresses.

I guess you should check it out if you love a semi-biograghical mangas of crack addicts. I mean really. Seriously, out of all the singers in the entire world they pick the junkie. Sure crack addicts +singers but why sell your integrity?

Sorry about that I was..anyway. My sister reads the thing and she says that the thing is actually pretty good despite the fact that its based on Courtney Love. The drawing style is pretty good based on what I've seen on the covers I've seen so I say check it out but don't count on enjoying it. Hmmm

What metal rock star don't do crack?
What rapper don't smoke weed?
(Everybody got secrets)

Because of these thing, it might make the story more fascinating? I haven't read Princess Ai, but I heard it was decent. If their work is good and respectable, than we should judge the work, not the person and how they live their life? Naoki Yamamoto (Dance Til Tomorrow) and Hiroya Oku (GANTZ, Hen) are both pretty good hentai mangaka. You can call them perverted sex-maniac in real life, but they still do pretty damn good manga and well respected. Kobe Bryant might cheat on his wife, but he's still a damn good baller.

I bought the first volume, read it, threw it away. And I don't usually do that, but I don't want to subject anyone else to the travesty that was Princess Ai. I didn't even know Courtney Love was involved until after it was gone, so that wasn't a factor.

Hmmmmm...

*Cam goes to Google and searches for Rappers that Don't Smoke Weed*
(40 mins later)
DAMMIT MAN YOU GOT ME IN A TOUGH POSITION!!! THAT WAS A CHEAP SHOT YA HEAR! A CHEAP SHOT!

*Cam goes to Google and searches for Metal Rock Stars that don't do crack*
(2 mins later) What A minute! I almost forgot, I don't care about proving that point. If it weren't for crack, Led Zepplin and his boys would have never had made that Volume 4 and then get aressted for trying to get kids to kill themselves by playing a song backwards (Do you know how hard that is you need like $80 worth of software). But anyways I'm not truly hating on the book (realization after a few hours). All the best stories that follow one person are usually because that person has some kind of "thing" that society can't stand right. I mean look at Ray. What would Ray have been like if Ray Charles had never done heroin? It would have been one boring-ass movie in my opinion. I mean we would never have had all the damm specials on VH1 and ABC if Michael Jackson hadn't allegedly done the things he'd done. I know more about Jacko than I do about some of my friends, but I wouldn't want to see any of my friends life stories as a Manga or comic or movie either. So you are absolutely 99% right when you say that it makes it more interesting. Like I said the art is dope and I'm sure that their has to be an interesting story within that so don't let the crack residue you may find on the spine turn you off of the manga. But to more pressing matters beyond me and you ryusaki...

Now looky here. I'm going to say this and I'm only going to say this once so listen (uh read?) carefully. Kobe didn't do it. He was framed by the police because he's black and he makes more money than they do + Anyman that gives his wife a 2 million dollar ring wouldn't cheat em + Thats too big an advestment. Add that plus the fact that the man can bust 81 points in a gameand you get= not guilty.

i probably sound like an ass, but the members of led zeppelin didn't smoke crack, although they did do a lot of coke. and they were never arrested for a suicide song, you may be thinking of judas priest.

courtney love's manga, was inevitably going to be crap. i feel sorry for people that wasted any $ on it.

I'd say flip through the first volume at the bookstore and decide for yourself.

I, for one, liked it (and have read both V1 and V2) and I'm looking forward to V3.

It's not a AAA title like FMA or Kare Kano or Mars or anything like that. It's entertaining and it's fun and that's my type of thing. Plus the artwork is beautiful (mostly due to the character designs). I'd say at least look at it, since it may or may not be your type of thing.

Courtney Love being involved really didn't bother me. As long as the product was good (as it was to me), who cares?

At work everyone read both volumes. No one liked it at all. But the arts pretty!

It's really a hit or miss manga with people. I would flip through it before you buy it.

Actually, I didn't really know anything about Courtney Love or DJ Milky. When I saw it on the cover, I was like - "This must be another aspect of American pop culture I'm clueless about".

I love the series. I mean, sure Courtney Love helped make part of it, but who cares? She didn't draw it or create the entire storyline. I also really enjoy the artwork. It's very detailed. Wink Now, for some fun things I found on Tokyopop revolving around Princess Ai. Not only does the "manga online" part of their site offer you to read the next chapter within the third book, there's actually a download where you can listen and read along with the first chapter of the manga.

Anime hyper Seriously, check it out, it's kinda funny yet not too bad at the same time.

Manga Online Preview

Under the "read a chapter" drop down list, there should be a little tack with "Listen to a Chapter" underneath it. X3

Careful with TP's mangapods. Some parts of the voice acting could be done differently. I think they're really cool and fairly well-done, but a little less grunting by Ai here and there would sound better.

I found the first volume of Princess Ai to be insufferably dull and trite. I'm VERY glad I didn't pay for it (got it for free at a Tokyopop lecture) and I gave it away as soon as I finished. In terms of characterization, mood, and pacing, it's a disaster. Plus the whole glam rock thing felt forced and phony. The only positive aspect is the pretty artwork.
