Top 7 LN Rankings from 2012 Popularity:

1. Sword Art Online (Dengeki Bunko)
2. Toaru Majutsu no Index (Dengeki Bunko)
3. Hero of the Six Flowers/Rokka no Yuusha (Super Dash Bunko)
4. Baka Test (Famitsu Bunko)
5. Oreimo (Dengeki Bunko)
6. My youth romantic comedy is wrong as I expected/Yahari Ore no Seishun Rom-Com wa Machigatteiru. (GaGaGa Bunko)
7. Durarara (Dengeki Bunko)

(can't link to the list since its apparently blocked by ANN due to fansubs or something)

This should give you an idea of what to expect from this anime... its already an incredibly popular LN and it doesn't even have an anime yet. It and Oreimo 2 are my most hyped shows of Spring now.

I read the first 2 chapters of the manga this week and it was amusing so going to watch the anime series for sure.

Quote:
an antisocial high school student named Hachiman Hikigaya with a distorted view on life and no friends or girlfriend.

More BakaTest and Durarara, less of this kind of crap. Or better yet, why not an outrageous parody in which the MC comes to the conclusion that suicide is the only option and kills himself? That would be delightful.

Hey, that actually sounds pretty good, at least it appears to be a skewering of sorts of the usual anime rom-com aspects. I'd definitely be willing to give it a chance.

There's gotta be some kind of law in Japan where you get a fine if the title of a light novel is longer than 5 words.

Wouldn't it be the opposite, and that titles are long to avoid the fine?

Or the reason for the long titles could just be typical Japanese respectfulness; they want their audience to know the entire plot before they've even opened the cover.

I like long titles when they're clearly tongue in cheek (every Fall Out Boy song comes to mind), but sometimes LNs overdo it.

not many. Less than 5. You don't know what generic means.

By books I meant "painfully cookie-cutter school comedy LNs". Of which there appear to be a bunch.

It'll be funny to see you all bash on "It's Not My Fault That I'm Not Popular!" if that ever gets an anime, just because it has an extremely long title and you assume before you read or watch. I think they've moved onto romcom LNs because they're running low on VNs. There's only so many times you can adapt Da Capo or ToHeart with different school uniforms. Be glad these anime actually look presentable these days, we'll likely never have another Crescent Love.

Well theres a Da Capo anime in the Winter so its not like they've abandoned making those kinds of anime either.
