I was wondering, what are some stories of artists who ended up hating the anime made of their original comic?
I was thinking of this because I've been told that the Fruits Basket author hated the anime series and clashed a lot with Akitaroh Daichi, the director. This always kind of baffled me, because, other than some continuity changes, the anime seems to be pretty close to the manga. And I thought it was a really good series. Granted, I haven't read too far into the manga, so please put spoiler tags up, if you comment on this.. ^^; Anyone have any more info on this, or know of any other stories where the author hated the anime? |

If that's true, they were fighting behind closed doors about it...I've got up to volume 8 of the manga, and in the manga the author raves about the hardwork that the voice actors and people working on the anime are doing.
But I do recall hearing that the manga-ka of Sailor Moon was mad that they turned some of the senshi into men who transformed into women, when in the manga they were just women... |

Ah, I didn't know that was an invention of the anime. Any knowledge of why they did that in the anime? Sort of a baffling decision. Oh wait... was that section of Sailor Moon directed by Ikuhara of Utena fame? Cause if that's the case, I understand right away. |

The Kenshin author apparently didn't like what they did with the anime.

I'm not sure if she was mad about it, but if you read the liner notes of the Sailor Moon artbooks, the mangaka certainly talks about being rather confused by a lot of the things that the anime did, especially concerning the Sailor Starlights, who were 100% female and fairly minor characters, from what I understand. |

The author of Hellsing was most certainly displeased with the original anime series. That is why he is personally supervising the new OAV, or so I`ve heard.
And who could blame him? I mean yeah, the series was really cool, had great music but it featured Incognito, and thats really too much. |

Rumiko Takahashi was rumored to have disliked Mamoru Oshii's take on Urusei Yatsura. And, although I thought his UY movies and many of his episodes were brilliant, I must admit that he didn't exactly stick with the source material. Of course, I don't know whether the rumor is true or not, but it's interesting that the anime of Rumiko Takahashi stories after UY have all been extremely faithful to the manga.

Wataru Yoshizumi expressed some disappointment with the animated version of Marmalade Boy. She goes into some detail in the freetalks in the last volume.
Another one is the Kare Kano manga. I think the anime was supposed to have been longer, but the mangaka was unhappy with how the show had turned out? I forget exactly.

Miyazaki-san was dissatisified with the ending to the anime version of Nausicaa. Quoted from Nausicaa.net, "Q: The Japanese movie trailer said "13 years since Nausicaa". Why?
Because "Mononoke Hime" is very close to Nausicaa in terms of its genre (action adventure story) and its theme (the relationship between humans and nature). Miyazaki wasn't satisfied with the ending of the movie "Nausicaa", which needed a miracle to bring a happy ending to solve the conflict between humans and nature. So he took another 10 years pursuing this issue (the relationship between nature and man), writing the manga "Nausicaa", which he finally concluded in 1994. "Mononoke Hime" will be based on this conclusion: "there is no happy ending to the fight between humans and Raging Gods" (from the project proposal)." |

Yeah, I've yet to hear about her disliking the anime.
How is Rurouni Kenshin harder to adapt than any other manga? |

I think Watsuki never said outright that he disliked the anime. But his reaction to the Seisouhen OVA was pretty... reserved, or cool, and if you read between the lines, it's rather obvious he was unhappy with it. I mean, it only contradicts anything his work ever stood for. I'd be pretty pissed, personally.

Hmm, well maybe it's just a rumor, but I've heard it from more than one person. That's an interesting bit about Miyazaki... and kind of a depressing thought of his, though true. ^^; |

Because OMG samurai in Japanese anime is a groundbreakingly original concept. And he wears a pink shirt. Samurai in pink shirts is a very controversial subject. |
