I want to start reading Yu-Gi-oh manga but there is 3 kinds and I don't know which to get. Should I start with Duelist or get the plain Yu-gi-oh? I dislike Millenium World. I really like when theryre on the island tournament. Can you help me?

If you want to start from the beginning, start with Yu-Gi-Oh!, then go to Duelist. Millennium World is last, but you said you didn't like it (I don't much care for it myself).
Duelist has the Duelist Kingdom arc you're alluding to.

So what's better Yu-gi-oh or Yu-gi-oh Duelist? Do I have to read Yu-gi-oh to read Duelist? Thanks for the help.

If you read Yugioh it will explain why Kaiba has a grudge against Yugi.

Well, you don't have to read YGO first before reading Duelist.
& I would rate them the same, because they technically are the same.
The 3 YGO manga here are in fact the same thing, but because Viz wanted to speed up the release of the series, they decided to release both the Dueling arcs & the Millenium arc at the same time. Thus, they added the sub-headings for those arcs (Duelist & Millenium World) after Vol. 7 of the regular YGO was released.
As I said above, you don't have to read YGO first before reading Duelist. But if you want to read it in chronological order, then read YGO before YGO Duelist. It has some pretty interesting stuff.

Ok, so I'm incredibly bias towards this, because for the most part I loathe manga or anime based on marketing. (Pokemon, YGH and the like) I could never get into duelists or millenium but the first few YGH volumes are actually pretty good, (this coming from someone who usually hates this kind of stuff), really unique story and weird situations.
Once it became card battles I steared clear tho.

Not only will you understand it better if you start with the first arc, you'll also see Yugi burn someone to death

Hhmmmm?.....I'm big of fan of Yu-Gi-OH!
DO you really want to start to read Yu-Gi-Oh!? I think you are unsure, first you sound you don't really want to do it....make up your mind. Think about it...and I think is to first start with Yu-Gi-Oh, then the duelist,
-Do YOu want to DUEL???!!! (lol)

Isn't there 38 volumes of Yu-gi-oh? Is that counting Duelist? Is there no card battles in the regular Yu-gi-oh.

There are some card battles in the regular Yugioh but that is not the main objective of the story.

Including Duelist & Millenium World, the grand total is 38 volumes. The reason why is in my 1st post.
& fighterholic already answered the 2nd half of that question, so I don't need to repeat that. :p

If you really want to start from the very beginning then Yu-Gi-Oh! would be it. You might also find Yu-Gi-Oh! a little more interesting because it explains more of how the characters actually met each other. Also, if you don't want to get into the card aspect right away, there is much, much less of it in Yu-Gi-Oh!. The cards don't even arrive until the very end of the series.
But, Duelist is easy enough to understand without having read Yu-Gi-Oh! previously and you certainly don't have to read Yu-Gi-Oh! at all if you don't want to. You could even start with Duelist and go back and read Yu-Gi-Oh! if you'd like.
bennyb, the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga was originally not based on marketing at all. Yu-Gi-Oh! was about different sorts of games and the only reason that it became focused on the card game is because so many of the fans were interested in learning more about the game, so Takahashi made the newer series about Duel Monsters.

Exactly. Takahashi was getting letters from fans asking how to play Magic and Wizards, so he saw it as an opportunity and added new rules, new monsters, changed the name of the game, and the rest they say, is history.
