I've seen a lot of good concecpts in manga, but theres one kind I haven't seen. Are there any mangas out there that have a western type story? What I mean by that is a guy w/ a six shooter trying to find his way in a crime filled wild west. Any stories have that kind of thing in them?

From what I've heard, Zombie Powder. It's from the creator of Bleach. There's also No Man's Land which is American but is read from right to left for some reason or other.

You can't get much more authentic for a Western than Riot, which even goes so far as to star Billy the Kid! Word of warning, though: the creator of the manga became ill during the serialization, so the book is incomplete. Viz only released 2 volumes in the mid-90s, and the encyclopedia says a 3rd volume was released in Japan (though never released here).
It's worth checking out, though.....Riot was one of my favorites when it came out, and I was really bummed that it was never continued. |

Does Trigun count? He has his larger-than-average hand gun on him at all times, everything is a desert, people drink in saloons, they travel via train, etc etc.

Says the guy who thinks Americans can draw true manga.  
Honestly, the Japanese should actually be well suited to make Westerns. Samurai and Western heroes have a lot in common, and if you don't believe me, watch The Seven Samurai and then The Magnificent Seven back to back. |

Well, not really - It does have a slight Wild West feel to it with "wanted" posters and small towns in middle of nowhere, but Gamma Akutabi's weapon is actually a chainsaw sword, not a six-shooter  It's pretty much pure fantasy...

Of course if you want Western style manga, you want to check Et Cetera! You got it all; awesome art-style, endearing characters, action, drama, a decent story and of course that crazy gun collector cowgirl (check my avatar).
No Man's Land has two volumes, (don't know if it's over yet) I think. Short and sweet, according to what I have rode (not that I rode the books, reviews, I rode reviews). |

I'll second the vote for Et Cetera. Though it's been a while since I read it, I quite enjoyed it. And it was the first Wild West manga that I thought of.
