Publishing isnt' terribly good at bringing gross income down to the bottom line ... in the US.
Somehow I'm not too surprised that a Japanese publisher would have even more trouble doing so. There's a lot of overhead, it's a people intensive business. Mark Gosdin |

Yes it is. In the US you wouldn't get past more than a handful of quarters before your stockholders would be looking for blood. The Japanese investor, it is my understanding, takes a longer term view like US investors used to do. Still,18 years of forbearance is remarkable. Mark Gosdin |

Overrated, maybe yes (and by this, I'm inducing the rage of hot-headed fans); but predictable? Definitely nope. As the person above me has said, care to elaborate on what's gonna happen in the next chapter? spoiler[Right now, the backstory of Historia is still a big mystery and we still don't know anything about the royal family and why they would want to hunt down Eren and Historia. Furthermore, the identities of the Wall Titan, Ape Titan as well as the wall cult's involvement with the whole scheme is still very much unknown.] So predictable? Back on topic, god, if the bulk of Kodansha's profit really come from AoT, I wonder whether the editors would pressure the author to prolong the story so that they could milk as much out of it. Either that or they would force him to change from a supposedly sad ending to a happy ending or even an open one so that sequels could come out. |

Pretty sure all of that has already started. They're publishing spin-off manga and light novels, and the manga-ka has said that he had originally planned to kill everyone off at the end, but he's changed his mind. I just hope the story has enough momentum to support all the weight they're putting on it. |
