This actually looks good imo. Even though not a fan of Liden Films, I'll be optimistic about this. wonder if it will be a 2 cour too...

The manga's by Hiromu Arakawa so I'll at the very least give it a try.

The original Arslan OVAs were one of my gateway shows, but the sameface-ness that's going on here (and the fact that it looks like a sequel to FMA) just bugs me

Apparently this is not based on the novels but a Manga by Hiromu Arakawa, which explains the art style since Mangaka only have style.
