It makes sense from where the series as it progressed was going. Takumi took more interest in rally racing from his races with actual professionals that happened in the latter part of the series. Question is would it still feature Takumi or a new character if he did it.

If he ever does a sequel to Initial D, it definitely HAS to be about PRO racing, be it rally or track/road racing, the amateur/street racing setup has reached its limits in terms of character, story and skills evolution.

And for god sake, please do something about the Iketani X Mako story!!!

Rally racing would really fit his style*if he does not forget to add a lot of unrealistic moves/drifting).

Hoping he does it.

Bring forth a new era. Let's see it. Initial D is hilarious if you know anything about cars. Especially tuners, local vs overseas.

I kept thinking that he was gonna continue the series and make Takumi and Ryosuke go pro. Maybe this is a good sign that he interested in doing that.

It honestly gets pretty old if the same old street racing setup keeps getting used.

I think that if he wanted to keep this possible sequel successful, he would want to include Takumi either as the main character or a supporting character. Even in sequels, sometimes fan favor the main character as that's what they grew up with and what was a partial factor in the original series' success.
