There wasn't much reason to doubt it. Did everyone forget about CR's agreement with Kadokawa earlier this year?

Yes I did forget that. My memory isn't what it used to be for various reasons.

Because of this:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-press-release/2016/04/10/crunchyroll-and-kadokawa-enter-into-strategic-alliance
Specifically, "...that will give Crunchyroll exclusive worldwide digital distribution rights (excluding Asia) for KADOKAWA anime titles in the upcoming year".
Brave Witches is a Kadokawa title. Kadokawa can't just ignore a standing agreement to give a title to Funimation because they hold the licenses to two related series.
Also, don't forget, CR simulcast both of the original Strike Witches series, so even without the agreement, this wouldn't be out of left field.
Thanks to CR's partnership with Funimation, however, I wouldn't be surprised to see a Funimation simuldub of the series, as well as an eventual home video license by them.

No. Going forward, Funimation will be for dubs, CR for subs. If Funimation gets it, it would be a simuldub only.
