Back when we were all giving our guesses on VAs, I said Jason Liebrecht for Angelo, but no he's voicing someone else. The main cast is very disappointing, a bunch of nobodies, you would think they would pull out the big guns for this one(whoever Funis big guns are?).

When Aniplex dubbed Fate/Zero they got industry veterans out left right and centre, was hoping for a similar effort here given how eagerly everyone has awaited the dub.

Funimation are always in a lose-lose situation.

Use their veterans-people complain about hearing the same voices
Use new names-people complain about the cast not being as experienced

People complain about that in general, not just Funimation. And it's not that they are new people, that's to be expected. It's that they are given main character roles, where you usually give them minor roles for a number of years, unless it's a low tier show where the dub quality isn't very important.

I am watching the dub episode as I type this. They do use Italian accents, something I think they should have used in the Japanese.

I enjoyed the first episode's dub. They went full Baccano and used Italian accents and dialogue, which is cool. The acting was good, but it DID come across a little stilted in places, something that I guess will fade over time as they get used to they're roles and talking in those accents. Most surprising was Brandon Potter's Fango. I wasn't quite expecting him to sound like that, so it took a minute to get used to it. He sounds a little less intimidating than the original seiyuu... but he also sounds a little more fun? I like it. It'll take more than this first episode to really judge the dub, but it wasn't a bad first episode.

A number of this cast list are veterans but they are playing bit/minor characters. So, Gray goes from stripping to being a mobster. What would Juvia think?

Tell me about it. Between the sheer number of dubs Funimation is doing, and the fact that they added an evening shift to accommodate the simuldubs, they have been taking the opportunity to cast new actors or give some that have done minor roles some bigger roles. Plus, based on the Fairy Tail commentaries, Tyler Walker likes to use new or seldom used actors when he gets the chance.

With them doing 18 or 19 shows this season, we'll probably hear quite a bit from the veterans anyway.

I'm a sucker for anime set during Prohibition-era. I just finished watching the dub of the first episode and thought the cast was kinda good tbh. I loved the use of Italian accents.

In terms of a recent anime that is almost worthy of a live-action Hollywood adaptation, this is 1 of them.

This seems like it's going to be a good dub. There might be some who might object, not to the dub itself, but to the anime, because a lot of people in this are Italian and a lot of Italian-Americans have had to go through a lot and always being identified with crime because of scum like Al Capone,Vito Genovese,"Lucky" Luciano, and others like them. Most Italian-Americans,even during the Prohibition era, never got involved in crime, but because of the publicity these guys created,an entire ethnic group was stereotyped as criminal, even though, the majority of Italian-Americans were never criminals to begin with.
I hope they do an anime about an Italian-American detective in that same era, like Joe Petrosino, who fought against the Mafia and the Black Hand and showed that not all Italian immigrants to America and their American descendants were criminals and thugs, but could be police officers and heroes like the Irish and their fellow Americans. Again, good dub even if some of the material might prove problematic for some.

If anything's made for an English dub, it's this. I hope they pull it off.

Yup, Greed1914 totally beat me to it, was thinking exactly that.

I think Tyler Walker will do a great job with this, I like that he went with the accents again. That's a good point too, that he's one who likes using new/different actors.
