Should just rejoin Sega in order to save them...

But in all seriousness, good luck to him. Hope his next game is great.

Given he's one of the early brainchildren of the Phantasy Star series I'll find it hilarious if he ends up working on Final Fantasy.

I know everyone is trolling about waiting on a Sonic/FF crossover...

Or at least I hope everyone is trolling about that.

^ Yeah, Sonic the Hedgehog remains a Sega I.P., Yuji Naka can leave Sega but he can't bring Sonic with him; should Square-Enix want Sonic as a crossover character in any of their games, they'd have to negotiate with Sega.

It wouldn't surprise me if Square Enix acquires/merges with Sega. Remember they did buyout Taito from 2005 to 2006. Sega was in talks to merge with Bandai in 1997, but the deal collapsed, and the former subsequently merged with Sammy in 2004 and latter with Namco the year after. Sega's merger with Sammy was more of a mutual bailout to save each other rather than to fortify business interests, so a fellow pachinko company might be interested acquiring the latter's unrelated business. Antitrust concerns are minimal, as Sony divested its stake in Square Enix some years back.

God forbid, Disney comes along and scoops up Square Enix, as people have been speculating about since they acquired Lucasfilm, and now 21st Century Fox. Also, considering Disney historically had ties with Nintendo, it would be a full circle.
