It is broadcasted in Japan, it says so right there in the article. Amazon holds the rights to online streaming only.

Well if you use Amazon regularly, then Prime is a good deal. Otherwise at least in Japan, they get the option of watching/DVR'ing it on TV as usual.

Amazon Prime Instant video is available as standalone service. It’s just like any other streaming service.

It's better for it to be on Amazon Prime than to be part of Netflix as the most versions of the latter prefers the binge upload approach.

It was only a rip off before because you had to pay for both Amazon Prime and Anime Strike before they got rid of Anime Strike. Frankly if you buy manga/BDs/light novels you should have a prime account anyways since it pays for itself (at least if you live in the US).
