Wow, there's a show I never expected another season for. Loved the first two, looking forward to this one.

So this is essentially a side story rather an a continuation of the main story?
That's disappointing, but at least we're finally getting something more from the franchise. |

I bought Gate recently from Sentai when it was on sale, so I'll have to push up watching it so I'll be ready for a second season to drop, even if it is an unrelated story.

What an emotional roller coaster; "GATE is getting a second season? No, it must be that other Gate anime. No, it's the right one but it's named the Second Season? Oh, it's an adaptation of a series called GATE second season. It's a spin-off, not a continuation? Oh."
The original succeeded despite being an A-1 pictures production, with the writing outpacing dodgy animation. It's not what I would like but it does beat having another not GATE related Gate anime. |

Saw the heading...CHEERED...saw the picture before reading the article, Rory Mercury was no where to be seen...bummed out big time....but, I loved the first season and hope season two comes close....but...no rory mercury.....sigh....

I would have preferred another season of the first, but why not? After all this time, I had already lost hope for another Gate.

Excuse me but how many times in American Media has it portrayed the American military/people as saviours or the only hope for the world to be saved? like cmon mate. everyone has patriotism for their home nation. Anyway in all seriousness, I am Glad this is getting made, While it is not following our main cast from the first book series it is still a continuation of the series just under a new military division and new characters. spoiler[Also don't Worry best Boy Itami and Rory do eventually make a comeback and also star in it around book 4 and Book 5 so you will see them again eventually. ] The Original Novels ended Years ago as did the Light Novel Adaptations. The Manga Adaptation is in its final run with around 5-8 chapters left to cover more or less. So now they are shifting to this series instead. Although i do wonder if the Author is planning to continue writing it as the sequel series has been on a hiatus since 2020 last i checked with Book 5 being the last published book. Also i do hope that we got either an anime or at least a manga adaptation of The Gaiden Books that follow Itami's group in between series during the 4 year gap between the 2 series. |

why call it season 2 if it's an all new story with all new characters? I was excited for 15 seconds and then I saw the image.

The LN series is called "Season 2", not the anime. The World and setting is the same thus it is a sequel. And the original cast will also return at some point. |

I think the section adapted in to anime was already the best bit of the original Gate, so I'm probably more interested in this than a continuation.
