Yeah, it's not related to manga or anime series, they only share the same name.
Considering the tracing controversy though: yeah, some of the panels are very, VERY OBVIOUS plagiarism from famous stuff like Tokyo Ghoul - and it honestly baffles me what exact reason author thought to cut the corners like that instead of maybe simplifying panels or hiring more assistants for deadline meetings, especially when your work is over 10 years old in publication already and you're not the newbie anymore.

This was easier to do back before the internet. Takehiko Inoue managed to escape the tracing allegations for Slam Dunk back in the 90s but I can't imagine people thinking they can get away with it in 2025.

The company already warned the artist back in 2023, but surprise surprise—they’re still doing it again in 2025.

That is rotoscaping, it's a legitimate technique drawing from 3D images and converting to 2D. It's very commonly employed. Problem is those are images licensed by the NBA, but at yhe same time, it is the pose being replicated, not the player or brand. You can't copyright a pose.
Much more worrisome is when its an artist taking another's hand drawn work and copying it. Anyone remember Ikkitousen and how it lifted entire panels from Tenjo Tenge? Yet Ikkitousen went on to be a huge success and there were never any consequences.
I'm sure AI in time is going to cause even more issues. There are enough fake wannabe artists out there already.
