I just heard on CNN that Cameron stated his next project as a sci-fi film featuring tons of special effects. Does this mean that he's finally made up his mind to do Battle Angel Alita as his next project?

If it's anything like The Abyss, I'm in.

Cameron states that he will do a lot of things. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

Actually a link just now popped up on the story via google. http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,12589,1128690,00.html
Funny how the internet works so fast. It's still pretty vague |

He owns the US rights to the BAA anime. If this new flick was going to be Alita it wouldn't say as-yet-untitled.

You can't just scratch Alita off the list simply because it's untitled. Guardian.co.uk states "The exact nature of the as-yet-untitled film is still vague." Just because Cameron owns the rights to Alita doesn't necessarily mean he will title the film Battle Angel Alita. I think that statement should be interpreted as Cameron not releasing any film specifics this early in production. |

Maybe its a conclusion to his Dark Angel television series.

Good gravy, Cameron's Dark Angel had squat to do with GUNNM and Alba's character could not hold a candle to Yoko! Yoko rocked and was extremely talented. If you have ever read the mangas you know that the OVAs just barely touch the surface of Yoko’s (aka Gally in the U.S. translated version) complex and fascinating personality. If Cameron ever does get off his duff and begin production on GUNNM or some watered down version, would it be a tv series or a movie. Personally I am against a movie, there is just too much information that would be excluded. At least with a tv series, the potential for careful and thought-provoking storytelling and character development has a good chance occurring. Regardless, only time will tell but I for one am not holding my breath, life is too short to wait.

Sometimes movies in production are officially "Untitled" because the producers don't want word getting out too soon. Star Wars movies, for example, get filmed under bogus official titles to keep curuosity seekers away.

Yeah, if I remember right Reurn of the Jedi was filmed under the title "Blue Moon" to keep the lookiloos away. |

One of the Matrix movies went under the title "The Burghly Man" at some point. And the script for X-files: Fight the Future was printed on red paper so it couldn't be photocopied. |

He's also supposed to be directing Evangelion. But he'll probably turn it into an Aliens wannabe.

This is a rumour from more than one or two years ago. The odds it's actually true now are slim. |

As much as I hope for a BAA movie I feel there is a stronger chance it is Aliens versus Predator. There has been alot of talk about it recently and I would not be suprised if it comes to be. |
