I'm guessing it will go to other platforms also, unless they're going to do timed exclusive. The first was exclusive initially, and the second launched on most platforms (not Xbox) day one.
Edit: And there's the confirmation.

Do the party members actually interact in this one? I hated that about the first game.

I mean, this doesn't share elements with the mobile so much as it IS the mobile game just without a lot of the gacha stuff which...more people should do that honestly. Maybe when sunsetting a game, you just revise some things and put it on the appropriate platforms for people to indulge in. Definitely better than just eliminating all that work people put in

I think for certain games that might be more work than it's worth. For example - Opera Omnia had more than 130 characters by the end of its life, each with 6+ attack animations after the years of reworks/weapons added. I would like to have a console version of it (especially since Global never even got the final chapters), but I don't see it being profitable.

That got addressed in Octopath Traveler 2. Though most of those conversations are not voiced unfortunately. But overall it's just so much better than the first game.

Was not expecting a prequel game, though feels appropriate that it would only have one (and customizable) protagonist.

Yeah, Octopath 2 is an ENORMOUS improvement over the first game, but I'd argue they still had a lot of room to go to make the party feel more cohesive. Which would presumably be what we would look forward to in a third game, but with this being a port of a mobile game... not sure it's really warranted to get my expectations up, personally.
